New print Magazine based in Ireland

Postby Makaveli on Sun Jan 08, 2012 4:11 pm

Hi,

Myself and a few other guys have commenced work on a new magazine, gathering interviews, reviews etc. but you can never have enough contributors even if it's only for an odd interview or a few reviews so I contacted James to see if it would be ok to post here.

About the mag :
It will be a proper pro-printed magazine, partial colour & b/w.
64 Pages,
1000 Copies at the beginning (hope that it may be larger down the line, but starting out there's no point in sacrificing the mag)
Designated Demo section (Approx 15 Demos w/extra detail)
Zine section
Not interested in covering news or live reviews as ther are outdated before the customer receives the mag
The review section is realy only aimed at the underground (Terrorizer & the likes have the bigger labels pretty well sown up so why bother competeing with that, esp. coming from the line that I personally have sent 7 releases to all the "big" mags and didn't once receive a review and I'm talking about releases from bands like Suicide Watch & Adrenicide, ohh well).

So what are we looking for ?

Anyone interested in reviewing or interviewing (while isssue 1 is about 70% complete), we would want to get people on board for issue 2 and so on.

We are looking for Demo & printed Zine submissions to be included within their own respective sections.

As for the Zine section, maybe there will be no interest in this and if that’s the case then we’ll scrap it, however if even only one zine is received then it WILL get covered within the mag so the onus is on the zine editor to decide if he/she wishes for any extra free publicity, and we though why not have all that info on a page within the mag, for example. What / who is covered within the pages, price and purchasing details, after all we are doing this for our love of the Underground scene.

Demo & zine submissions have to be made with physical copies, unfortunatly there’s no way that we can take someone’s word that a zine or a demo is available when in fact it could be delayed and not even available at that time.

Self released CDs wishing to be considered for review must also be sent in physical format

Labels that have their own media pages for the press are quite welcomed to share that information with us for possible review purposes and other labels that have no media page that wish to send in a physical copy of a release are quite welcome to.

Any information you may require like a mailing address or ad rates etc. then please contact Nicola at the address below.

Thanks metaltony,

The website is not live yet, need to find someone with the knowledge on web design to sort it out, it won't be too technical but it's finding someone.

Sanctum is the name,

One comment of mine would be not to worry about live reports becoming dated - every live report is 'dated', as the event has already passed - it can still be interesting to read opinions on live performances, at whatever point in time.

Your probably better of doing a simple website, but doing most of your promotion on facebook and twitter :)

I read what you are saying, I'm coming from my own narrowminded brain, I purchase Terrorizer & other mags each month and it's the one section that I fly on by, but yes it's a valid point and just beacsue I don't like reviews doesn't mean other readers don't.

Live reports aside. Of all the problems I though we'd have, finding reviewers was the last one I though would give me headaches. Until now I never knew the affect blogs were having on this, people just seem so happy to do blogs.

It will be simple that is for sure (like it's owner  ), some people mentioned about having a forum but I think with FB and the likes now, there is certainly no need for a forum to add to the over saturation of forums on the web. Twitter, FB, Flyers etc. should help get this moving quite well I do hope.

It was a cool mag indeed, the main guy behind that now has this label running

http://www.sarlaccproductions.com/

Metalworks was meant be coming back to the shelves or at least that's what I was told a few years back when I first mentioned my plans so I left it alone thinking there's no point me trying to compete with a well established mag that is known, so I started back on the project when he started up the label as I figured he wasn't going down the mag route again.

Myself or anyone affiliated with Sanctum have never had any to do with Metalworks, we're totally independent.
