Any artists fancy doing some art for me?

Postby jonny_boy34 on Fri Jan 26, 2007 1:15 am

Hello everyone, how do you do, mighty nice? Nice, lovely. Basically, here's my situation. I'm halfway through my final year at uni doing Music Production, and for my independent project I'm writing and producing a concept album called 'The Price of Freedom', based on George Orwell's marvellous novel 1984. My question for you is, as the title suggests, would anyone who is good at art like to do some cover art for me? I'm willing to pay for it if necessary (well, what I can afford anyway!), I just want something so great and wonderful no one will believe it and my tutor will have to give me a first (not that the music isn't great enough on it's own you know, but I need the whole package!). But yes indeed basically, if anyone can help me out with this, I'd hugely appreciate it, and I shall reward you with silver and gold and pounds. The only catch is, I need the art done within a couple of months. But that's a fair bit of time I suppose. I don't know. The style I'm looking for is perhaps a cross between Maiden's 'Brave New World' and Kamelot's 'Epica' - I'd like a nice bleak view of the London of 1984 and images of the three main characters, and perhaps with the back and inside being a nice bit of Golden Country or something.

But anyway, what say you, anyone? Or does anyone know any great and lovely artists? Lovely, thank you for your time, nice.

man, if anybody wants some real fun check out the metalbrew forum. i spent most of the last 2 years clogging it up with my MSpaint shenanigans (i bet thats not how that is spelt!). i decided it was time to unlease the horrors onto a new (n00b?) audience.

i had that one held in the ranks from before, so i thought it was a perfect time to let it rear its ugly head!

... i really need to get out and stop spending all my time on MSpaint. i bet the chicks will dig that...

 Well done jamie, I forgot about that, I now remember you making that for me a short while ago, I think I might just use it. After all, my tutor said he wanted me to have the characters on the cover, he just didn't say what the style of art should be like.

And yes indeed everyone, you should listen to this boy and come on the Metalbrew forum, it's full of fun treats you wouldn't believe! Jamie's been trying to take up a career in MS Paint Porn...

Anyway, Mr Bangover, cheers for asking your sister anyway, but it's true, if I tried to do it myself, that's pretty much what it'd look like...

On a serious note, I'd be well up for giving this a go. 1984 is probably one of my favourite books, and it conjured some vivid imagery.

It's a long time since I read it though so my picturing of the characters and setting is somewhat faded. I'd really like to help you out though.

I think water-colours could work well for it, but I've really never used them before, so perhaps I would steer clear of them and use coloured pencils.

Could you give more details on what you are looking for?

No, no you really don't. Please keep doing this. It's fucking ace! I was told about you and this kind of thing last night when I posted my picture of Jade
I'm going to
Tear your fuckin' eyes out,
Rip your fuckin' flesh off,
Beat you 'till you're just a fucking lifeless carcass,
Fuck you and your progress,
Watch me fucking regress,
You were made to take the fall,
Now you're nothing!!

Ah cheers man, that'd be fucking great! Well, I had the idea of having a nice panned view of a bleak London (or Airstrip One as it's called), and some slightly transparent images of the characters faces over the top somewhere. The reason for that is that my tutor wants me to have some kind of character illustrations on the cover as a way of increase the sense of imagery the listener will get - and I should listen to him really, as he's marking it! But I think that'd be quite a cool idea, but I'm open to any ideas you might have too.

I'd like to have a back cover done as well, though those don't need to be as detailed (I'm looking at a four page booklet including the front and inside back cover, so inside I can write the lyrics and things, and a proper back cover with nice spines for a jewel case lovely). I'm thinking that the inside and back artwork could be something like a nice view of The Golden Country - as there's going to be writing all over those pages, they don't need to be too detailed.

Anyway, that's the rough idea that's in my head, if you have any other ideas, feel free to suggest them. It'd be really great if you could help me out on this one, I'd really really appreciate it indeed, I'll be indebted to you forever! Well, not forever, I just basically want you to know I'll be thankful.

And by the way, jamie, Styxx is right, don't ever stop!
