Well, it should clearly be me.
Haha! Someone on TV just said 'rings'.

I think we ought to make the distinction between an administrator - someone that can delete accounts and so forth - and a moderator - someone that can only delete posts. Having more mods would probably be conducive to the faggots' utopia of a non-bollocks UK Thrash.

Typical Iain to read the absolute worst into the situation! There are only two issues at stake - worthless blunt insults and severe drifting off topic. The former is neither helpful nor funny wherever it occurs, and the latter is still totally permitted in areas where people's ability to gain genuine information or discussion won't be jeapardised.
If I'm a fascist bully boy, you're the loud mouthed Socialist Worker reading scumbag!

I don't read Socialist Worker, you silly queen!
Insults, no matter what form they take, are always funny and the ability to gain genuine information or meaningful discussion is completely besides the point of the internet. Any attempt to create a forum known for its accuracy of information and quality of discussion is destined to failure, so, I ask you, what is the point? I also think what you're trying to achieve, i.e. restricting the 'bullshit' to General Chat, is a bit silly: if anything, quality discussion on things not related to music has been more prevalent on UK Thrash than it has otherwise. Assuming that disagreements over an album, band, or genre will not descend into petty squabbles worthy only of General Chat is, in my opinion, pretty naive.
Honestly!

I hate the fact that I actually agree with this ginger winegum loving insanity-man.

James should also change his signature seeing as it's an example of the kind of post he has decided is now unsuitable for UK Thrash.

I just hope this forum doesn't get too serious. I've got no interest in that at all.

Considering the main purpose of this site was originally to create a hub for a particular music scene, I disagree.

All I'm saying is most people seem to want the level of nonsense scaled down a bit on occasions where some serious information or discussion would otherwise take place.
For instance, I don't really have any issue with you and Lev firing inanities at each other in a humourous thread about Doctor Death, but surely the line I'm talking about is pretty obvious. I'm not going to start a regime of deleting any drifting posts, I'm just saying, have some discretition, and know when you're dealing with a topic or a board member which is aiming for something constructive at the time.

Of course it bloody won't, it's just Iain throwing his dummy out of the pram that's making it sound like a revolution. I've said many times I like the fact that this place is a lot more casual than other pointlessly strict forums - all I'm saying is that when something is potentially of value as a topic in its own right, look elsewhere for inane e-laughs.

I'd be more worried about it fizzling out.
James's Vision:
A: I like this album.
B: Really? I don't think it's very good.
A: But I think it's really good!
B: Well I don't!
C: Guys! Guys! Let's not us disagree.
Reality:
A: This album is well good!
B: Bollocks! It's fucking gant!
A: To be fair, you like Testament.
B: What's wrong with that?
A: Where do you want me to start...
(The dynamic continues for some time)
B: Just because I like Testament and you like Tool, it doesn't mean to say that you can imply your music taste is somehow more refined than mine.
A: Oh, I'll think you find it does.
B: Not really. Some of us don't have to be [insert catalyst word that gets things going] to be secure in our music tastes.
A: You bitch!
It's not the bullshitting that's the problem. If people on here think that more stringent moderation of off-topic musings and swearing will make for a better forum, they'll find they are greatly mistaken. People tend to disagree with one another over things that they care about, music being a notable example.
With this in mind, I say embrace the balls.

Re: Winds of Change
I don't think Iain is throwing his toys out of the pram at all. I think that some of the 'issues' raised shouldn't have been raised in the first place. Just because no cunt in the thrash scene is actually doing something worthwhile or interesting, people have started to look for scapegoats. If you cut out the mindless banter of this forum, you will not lose something and gain another, you'll just lose. I know some of these 'issues' affect the way I treat this forum and I can see it entirely plausible that people turn against me too if they have Iain, which is something I can't be arsed with.

My analogy was not exactly meant to be taken seriously; I've been overdoing it a bit on the old Soviet history as of late and have started dropping in bits and pieces of the language from time to time.
I'm acting as the opposition because no one else will. Maybe that's because I have come to disagree with the people who would like to see UK Thrash restored to being yet another Thrash forum in which people name-drop bands that aren't worth listening to. On the other hand, I know I'm not alone. Fair enough, I'm probably the most out-spoken of a minority, but I know other people see this as more than a Thrash forum.
James wrote:Considering the main purpose of this site was originally to create a hub for a particular music scene, I disagree.
This is a fairly specific observation. No matter what you intended this forum to be two years ago, it cannot be immune from the trends that affect the internet at large. I think it's fair to say people had issues with this forum long before it 'descended' into a banter hub.

And here in lies the root of the problem. I guess I no longer see the need for anything constructive on UK Thrash. Well, that's not entirely true seeing as I'd still consider having a serious discussion in General Chat if an issue that I care about were to be raised. This is the irony of the 'reform' threads that were deleted: a lot of people seemed to be implying that General Chat be nominated as the forum for the exchange of bollocks. I find it's the other way round as the best discussions tend to take place in General Chat.

Re: Winds of Change
iain, everyone can still talk the same amount of shite in general chat and i hardly think james is going to delete every slightly off topic post in other sections. Things just need to be toned down a bit. Peeple get put off when theyre confronted with "you're a twat" every post.
Look what happened with "Spikes With Blood on Them". We never see him anymore do we?
