What do you people, think makes thrash what it is?
I will bulk out my question or discussion when im less tired however my main point is in regards to these bands who say they are "modern thrash" orwhatever they call themselves. Now these are the people who look over to Gama Bomb, municipal waste, SSS and scoff and say "they are just doing old style thrash but with loads of rediculasness blah blah" Which i would argue of course there, in my opinion, isnt really anything much like GB MW or SSS back in the day.
But these bands have thier death metal/angry/growling vocals and odd breakdowns...by doing this doesnt it make it ...well not thrash?
Thoughts? What makes some thing thrash and not ____ genre?
Does thrash need to have specific things to be thrash and if so is this the reason why it can not inovate?

It's a tough one to pin down, but you can't go far wrong by saying it takes heavy metal and mixes in the punky energy - a lot of horrible metalcore bands who are passed off as "thrash" don't really possess any defining features from the 80s apart from some mute-picking.
I remember seeing Matt Heafy of Trivium supporting Maiden at Earls Court, and the cockbag felt the need to announce proudly that "this next motherfuckin' song's a THRASH METAL fuckin' song motherfuckers!!" - as if his band are such a brilliant hybrid that they can (and do) nail any retro genre and make it better... but only one song at a time.
However, what I find even more annoying is the way repulsive screamo bands are hailed as "death metal"; there really is nothing more infuriating.

Thrash Metal, for me, is defined by the riffs. If the riffs basically consist of a hell of a lot of:
000 000 000 000
or
0 0000 0 0000
then it's most likely Thrash.
000 000 000 000
or
0 0000 0 0000
then it's most likely Thrash.

These new 'thrash' bands that Kerrang were labelling thrash a couple of years ago, AREN'T thrash metal... they are metal core or some other wank name genre.... and they hardly ever play really fast!
Thrash is just metal, thats played faster... can sound like anything really... I mean speed metal is still thrash, just different names, y'know, and 80s hardcore punk... that's thrash too in my books... its fast and guitars and drums that go "Fuh-tzh-fuh-tzh" for a while... A lot of old school death metal is very thrash, the genres do blend so much it's hard to give a strict defintion.
Basically, metal but faster.
And no gay scooby doo/cookie monster mutant hybrid vocals please.
