Surely it should be "its hard to keep the flame of a candle lit, in the cold november rain"

I could hold a candle in cold november rain. Unless axl has some rain candle holding deficiency.

Taking lyrics literally is rarely a good idea. I once did that when I heard God Save the Queen. It ended up with me deploying a stinger against a Mercedes in a tunnel in France...
