Not strictly thrash, more NWOBHM, but TANK don't get the attention they deserve.

I've given Filth Hounds Of Hades quite a bit of attention, and it still doesn't impress me much.

Honour and Blood (I think thats the title!) is far better if you ask me. I usually get lynched for that, but its absolute truth.

Hydra Vein - "Rather Death Than False Of Faith"

Also a band who started just before I moved to Chicago - Sindrome. They did two great demos and should have been signed, but they broke up before that. They used to always be selling the demos at gigs here. You can download both demos from http://www.sindrome.net/. Highly recommended.

Definitely, those Sindrome album length tapes are legendary (especially the 1st).

I saw Hydra Vein once, supporting Deathrow at the Fulham Greyhound in '88. They were very good, I thought, and superior to their albums.

HOLOSADE was great, and a good live band too. Another band I caught at the old Fulham Greyhound. Loved Philip De Sade's image, with his axeman's hood.

I have a demo that is not listed on the Encyclopaedia Metallum page - the classic "Blue Strike Demos" tape. Track listing - Menace Unseen / The Return / Masquerade

Mentioning old UK bands like Metal Messiah has lead me to dig out and re-remember some other UK Thrash/Speed bands from those days. Here's a few worth investigating.

Xyster - seriously great band from Warrington. Their 3 early demos - "Children of Violence" ('87), "In Cold Blood" ('88) & "Black Bible" ('89) are superb. The album "In Good Faith" was a little disappointing, but still good.

Lord Crucifier - "Myra's Tape" & "Cataclism" demos are two twisted Thrash classics from '87. They were actually a bunch of Italians who moved to Sowerby Bridge in Yorkshire. It seemed all their gigs had an altercation between the guitarist/vocalist and a member of the audience. They were a volatile bunch!

Purgatory - the best thing to have come out of Weston-Super-Mare since John Cleese. Again, a band that released only two demos. The 2nd "Who Cares?", in particular, in bloody great. They also appeared on that "A Taste of Armageddon" album, which was a UK Speed Metal comp put out by Buster Bloodvessel from Bad Manners!

Resentment - also appeared on the "A Taste of Armageddon" album. Hailing from Kent, they also released two demos.

Wardance - formed by old English Dogs guitarist, Gizz Butt, in 1987. They put two superb demos that were constantly in my tape deck - "None but the Brave" & "A Short Sharp Shock". A few of those songs appeared on the album of his later project - Sundance. That was a bit more watered down version of Wardance.

Snyper - from Leicester - raw, manic Thrash. They even recorded a session for Tommy Vance's Friday Rock Show back in '88

Obnoxious - from Wednesbury. Their 3 demos - "World in Black" (1990), "L.I.F.E." (1991) & "Annals of Life" (1992) were always on tape player.

Other bands, off the top of my head, worth investigating from back then:

Treason (London band who only released a two track tape)
Deviant from Norfolk
First Blood from Kent
Arbitrator from Warwick
Warspeed from London
Tarrasque from Portsmouth
State of Confusion from Swansea

By the way, does anyone here like Slammer? That was a vilified band back in those days. Probably a lot of angst about them signing to a major label totally out of the blue, whilst more worthy bands were ignored.

How about Italy's BULLDOZER? They started off with "The Day of Wrath" in 1985, which was more than a little derivitive of VENOM. By "IX" & "Neurodeliri" though, the band had become one of the most original in the Thrash scene. No idea how their newer material is sounding though - I shall have to check it out.

Yeah I bloody love Bulldozer - there's a lush CD box set you can get now which has their entire back-catalogue included I think!

blacktears.... man..... that's a lot of bands I've never heard of!

I have an Xyster demo rip.. it's titled '30 minutes of metal' though, do you have any info on that?

YES! Purgatory!!! I live in Weston!!!! I only heard one of their demos though, my mate got told about them a few years ago by the brother of one of the band members!

Arbitrater are pretty cool, I have Balance of Power on me comp, its a good album, not the fastest or heaviest or most 'out-there' but very enjoyable!!

I quite like Slammer, again, not the most original/heaviest/fastest or anything, but they have quite a good sound!!!

Oh yeah, I forgot about "30 minutes of Metal" from XYSTER. That was their 1st demo from 1986.

The one time I saw SLAMMER live, I thought they were very good. Actually, I rated them better than XENTRIX that night.

I picked up a specially produced 10" EP they had for that show (Marquee Club). It was a sampler for the upcoming debut album - "Work of Idle Hands".

Tracklisting: "Born for War" & "Hellbound" (both from Radio 1 Rock Show session 8/1/88) "If Thine Eye Offends Thee" & "Fight or Fall" (live @ Bradford Queen's Hall - 19/12/88)

When I can shift some of my gear, and get to the rest of my tape collection, I can pull out a few more old UK Thrash band names. A few more I remembered earlier - PAX MORTIS (don't remember much about them), GROINAL BLOODSURGE - "Thrash Bastards" demo (more Hardcore/Thrash crossover) & 90s London band, ECTOPIA, who were great.

Yeah, I always liked Slammer. They weren't the most original band out there but as you say they got a lot of stick for signing to a major (even though supposedly they meant to sign a different Slammer but got the wrong one). Saw them a couple of times, the last time supporting Onslaught/Crumbsuckers in Bradford.

Any chance you could bang that up on the web somewhere ? I'd like to hear it, especially the live tracks. Cheers !
