Re: John Petrucci's Rock Discipline
My only real problem with Petrucci is that I've never really heard him do the simple stuff - cool blues runs and so forth - on guitar that well. People like Paul Gilbert seem to have found the happy medium between pentatonic and shred better than Petrucci.

Ha ha nice one. I can't watch the clips in my work. The powers that be deem it to be dangerous.

DEF!
GAWWWWD!
Anyway, my feelings on Prog have been noted before. I prefer to listen to guitarists who are in bands with songs that people can listen to without going 'Aww man! That was in 11/8 and in Lydian Dominant'. Petrucci would die if he were asked to be in a band like the Scorpions.

Winger were alright. Not the best but they don't deserve the slagging they get.

Petrucci has loads of amazing simple stuff. The best example is probably his solo in Lines in the Sand, it's bloody fantastic.

Do you ever stop and think, "What the fuck am I talking about?"

Aye, for example when I stopped claiming that Dream Theatre are good.
