Some limited editions are not worth collecting, i agree such as
LICK IT UP SHAPED PIC DISC
TURN ON THE NIGHT PIC DISC
REASON TO LIVE PIC DISC
SOLO ALBUMS WITH MASKS
ALIVE II COLOURED VINYL
HIDE YOUR HEART 10" PIC DISC
UNHOLY WHITE VINYL
CREATURES OF THE NIGHT DOUBLE GROOVED ETCHED DISC
HOTTER THAN HELL RED VINYL
KISS RED VINYL
LOVE GUN RED VINYL
SOLO ALBUM PIC DISC
ORIGINALS JAPANESE SET
ETC ETC ETC ETC
No...
No Limited Editions are worth collecting, not even KISS rarities. I don't see the advantage of having collections of rare vinyls. I mean, I find vinyl quite frustrating as it is despite prefer the sound to MP3s.
It might just be me but I'd far rather spend my money on things I can use, and having fun in general, than having a bunch of vinyls that'll never be used.
I suppose some people are willing to worship others for their vast collections of vinyl but I'm not one of them...

Fair point Iain, it can be pricey, but what is the point of just having all your music stored as mp3s on a PC... that seems totally shit to me.

Well, I can access all of my music extremely quickly. I have about 250 CDs and it takes me ages to find one when I want to rip it onto my PC. I can't imagine how long it takes all of you who still buy CDs and vinyl regularly.
Moreover, I can take SHIT-LOADS of music out with me when I go to Uni, when I need to travel anywhere or when I want to make a cool playlist. I didn't have an MP3 player in first year so I could only take a couple of albums out with me at any one time.
I guess half of you guys still use cassettes just to be retro, huh?
God I love technology!
No more scratched vinyls, CDs or chewed cassettes that take forever to rewind and fast forward.

mp3s are cool and really handy but theyre so...sterile.
CDs and especially vinyls make the music better somehow. Collecting vinyls serves exactly the same purpose as when i used to collect pokemon cards and football stickers in primary school. Rare lps are like the shinys!
When i walk into someones room who has loads of cool albums i can't help but feel impressed.

That's a really good idea actually Martin - you buy the Order From Chaos vinyl Immortalicide is selling and give it to me. He gets a sale, you get a smack, and I get the vinyl.

Sterile?
Explain...
Aye, music on CDs and vinyls is better. It is of higher quality. However, they're a total pain in the tits.

it's hard to explain really. All the depth and warmth of the music is lost and the process of playing and listening is so clean and clinicle. It's more satisfying to take the trouble of getting a huge piece of vinyl out of a wallet, balance it on a turntable and then spend a while trying to get the needle on the right place on the record. I like to see the vinyl turn round and round and hear the odd crackle now and again. It sounds so stupid but thats how i feel
It's great that we have the choice because I'd get pissed off if i had to go through the hastles of vinyl all the time.

i love mp3 too, but thats not to say i only listen to mp3s. Most of my mp3 i actually own on cd or other format somewhere. For me an album isn't just about a collection of songs, the artwork, the packaging and the insert are all part of it too. Don't get me wrong i love walking around with 20gb of music but i like knowing that i actually own most of it in hard copy too.

I think it's pretty obvious really. Of course all of us are grateful for the convenience of MP3s, and as sekhmet says, being able to walk around with so much stored music in your pocket is immensely handy.
However, where is the passion and authenticity if this is the only way in which you listen to music, even in your own home. Boovidge sums it up very well, it's all about having something in your hands to show for the effort and passion a band has put in to the songwriting, the cover art, the lyrics, and all the rest of it.
It's great to be able to have a collection of real life music, otherwise you basically have nothing to show for your love of music except sterile files on a hard drive.
