Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Im off now ta.
Nothing malicious.... but you have to admit Rise Above have released some absolutely sexual albums recently, regardless of their appetite for a 70's wank.

They have indeed, and so bloody what if they favour bands who pay homage to the best decade of music there ever was? No other fucking record label does!

wooops! oh june... oh j30ne...
But yes i can understand that some people may not be into what rise above has become of recent times, and thats fair enough, i can certainly understand and could be tempted to agree at times... often when a label changes its output it is usually frowned upon and maybe even rightly so in some cases. i do think however that rise above is an interesting case, and instead of following trends it has gone with its own trends through-out its lifespan. mainly because it is just Lee's own extension of his a) record collection and b) income/bank balance. so he has to put out stuff that he is into, not stuff to "fit" the label. so they have changed quite organically over the years, and i would probably assume that the more recent trend of the "lighter" proggy stuff is due more to that fact that bands of that ilk are finally emerging after years of it being a VERY underground or even extinct type of music. considering Mr.Dorrian has always been a massive fan of this type of music, its understandable to me that he would sign some bands of this nature given thats what he is into and that he may have finally found a few bands of this nature that he really likes. Although saying all this Rise Above still delivers some of the heaviest output there is in doom... MOSS for very good example.
I wish people on here weren't totally (and immediately) dismissive of other forumer's opinions, however blunt they may be about them, as it is really ruining the whole point of having a forum in the first place. it is a place of discussion and communication, not a slagging match (however much it is meant in jest).

Re: Rise Above gig
Jamie whilst you do have a fair point about this being a place for discussion and dismissing opinions and such i have been involved in far too many of these discussions to be bothered any more.
It is far easier and amusing (for myself at least) to make a blasé comment as it avoids getting roped in. All the other stuff i mentioned about finding what's his face annoying was just rapes and japes.
But now my opinion on Rise Above, whilst yes the are primarily a doom label as everyone knows. Without them i would not have been able to get my hands on all this lovely mellow 70's style stuff that is surfacing at the moment.
Yes they maybe slightly guilty of being trend hoppers; but at the end of the day it is his label and he can use it to promote the bands he enjoys. It is just luck that i enjoy a fair amount of them as well.
Cheers, thanks, peace and love, etcetera etcetera .
Now back to watching that ticket longingly.
