Any rap fans?

Postby Hostile on Wed Jan 17, 2007 8:30 am

Forum's dead, so I thought I'd make a thread. Rap fans, anyone? New or old school, it doesn't matter. Personally I'm more than partial to NWA, Snoop Dogg, Wu-Tang, Cypress Hill, XZibit, Run DMC, Biz Markee, Busta Rhymes, Tupac, Quest, and the shit Eminem did before he forgot that white rappers are a fucking joke.

Of-course like all things rap has deteriorated over the years, and these days almost nobody's saying a damn thing worth hearing. It's different from metal, the instrumentals alone can never carry the song. Without sincere and thoughtful lyrics, rap is fucking worthless. That's why real homeboys listen to Busdriver as he takes whack MCs to school. The other current name I can sincerely recommend is Immortal Technique, a communist revolutionary with some of the meanest fucking lyrics I've heard in years. The guy is fascinating.

Just listening to the remix of "Ridin' Dirty" with Akon by Chamillionaire. It's way better than the original.

I was never really into rap until I went to Uni when my housemate played me a lot of quality stuff- WuTang, GZA, Tribe and others. Public Enemy are my favourite. Zack's song with KRS-1 and some other dude (something Emperor) on the lyricist lounge is awesome to- CIA (Criminals in Action). Dalek are the only (fairly) recent act I have heard and like but I will check out the Hostile links, most certainly. Oh and all the Michael Franti stuff I've heard is great...

I've never been able to listen to Rap, it's just too monotonous. Amazing vocal content though:

'Yao! A bust ma jimmy through da biches head!'

'Yao! A bang'd a clip in dat piggy's skull!'

And such like.

Inner City streets still reek of our inner turmoil
Killing melanined equates to X amount of oil
They're telling tall tales to keep our eyes on foreign soil
Hearing truth from poor lips makes their blue blood boil
Play foil to false patriots
Remind youth of '67's race riots
When they learned to keep us quiet
Consumers consuming
Products we are now neither making or using
It only gets more confusing
30of armed troops minorities
Casualties directly impact Black and Latin families
If freedom is what we are fighting for, they why'd they swindle Gore?
Imprison most our men and never really outlaw lynching?
The rich get tax breaks, so they are stealing from the pensions of the poor
Who were lured to this land by ideas of better lives
Or tightly packed onto slaveships who's origin historians forever rewrite
Only goal to incite a mental riot
Defiant of airwaves designed to Tailor how I act
I drop the fists and guns and use this tongue to combat.

Dalek, Asylum. I'm sorry, but I hardly consider that poor lyrical talent...

I can listen to it in small doses. I quite enjoy watching channel U and seeing some of the British rap videos from places like croydon and the like  . It's a bit more "real" than the commercial American stuff.

One of my favorite J5 lyrics sums up what I think about rap perfectly:

"Its not about the bills

That's not keeping it real

A lot of tight rappers out here ain't got no deal"

Fucking genius.

i love the beastie boys, they are fucking awsome. i dont care what anybody thinks about them, if you listen to their albums you will hear much more than a 1 dimensional rap band. They started as a wicked hardcore band and moved on to rap, they are the greatest.

other than them stuff like J5, DJ Format, DJ Yoda etc. real hip-hop none of the bollocks please.

caps... lend me some Publim enemy please. i have been meaning to listen to them for ages. thank you sir... i'll give you a special cuddle!

Beastie Boys are great, but that's because it isn't just rap all the time ha. Public Enemy, J5 and NWA are alright, but I spend about 0.00000000000000000001% of my time listening to rap.
