Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer to tour together!!??

Postby meluaz on Fri Sep 04, 2009 9:55 am

Slayer guitarist Kerry King has told U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine that he has heard through the grapevine that Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich is plotting a tour that would include Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax.

Should this tour materialize, this would be the first time that the so-called "Big Four" of thrash have toured together as part of the same bill. Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax were joined by opening act Alice In Chains for the U.S. Clash Of The Titans tour in 1991, while Metallica and Megadeth last shared a U.K. stage at Milton Keynes Bowl in 1993.

In an interview conducted yesterday (Wednesday, September 2) in London, Metal Hammer asked Kerry if there had been a temptation to bring the co-headline tour that Slayer are about to embark on with Megadeth in Australia and Canada to U.K. shores.

"I think it would be cool but I knew we had this planned before all of this Megadeth stuff started happening," said King. "They're going to Australia with us, they're going to Canada again with us. I think it would be cool for the European fans to bring that over here because, shit, we didn't even consider playing with those guys since 1990."

So could it be possible that we could get a tour that includes the "Big Four?"

"I've heard people referencing Lars," said King. "I don't know Lars that well and I haven't heard it from Lars, but apparently he's talking to somebody about it. Maybe us, Metallica, Megadeth (and), I think he even threw in Anthrax and I said in this day and age, I know we had that time together, but how do you leave out Machine Head? There's better options than ANTHRAX and that's nothing against Anthrax, but they've just been in pieces for quite some time and that doesn't make as much sense to me."

My god that would just be the most.............. SHIT line-up in existance!!! I only like Metallica out of those really. Megadeth are piss annoying, along with their fans who live inside Dave. Slayer.... i dont need to say anymore. Anthrax, well cmon, they're gonna be shit. And the suggestion of Machine Head? Im sure you know how much i want them dead. It would be the most god awful gig in existance. I hope nothing like it happens.

Haha, yeah, that's what I was thinking. On paper the idea sounds wonderful, but when you think about it, it'd really be shit, apart from Metallica, who are really the only band out of those that are still amazing live. Although I haven't seen Anthrax, so I can't really comment on them, but I can't imagine it being that great.

Nice to see Kerry King still bitching and fighting with anything that moves. Anthrax might not be brilliant anymore, but they're in a completely different league to Machine Head. Why would you have a tour for the biggest, best thrash bands ever, and then put a 90s groove/nu metal band on the lineup?

Anthrax are bloody great live. The sonisphere show was fucking incredible and anyone who went to the London ULU show would also agree. They are probs better live then Slayer and the set never had any low points, so was probs a bit better then Metallica. Megadeth are great live, so tight, so fun just brilliant!

The only reason this tour wouldn't work is because of egos i would imagine.

But if it happened it would be incredible, literally would be the greatest show in the history of thrash. Potentially throw in Testament or Exodus/Overkill and you can see how this would play out.

Wembley Stadium - starts early in the afternoon. Overkill open up, followed by testament (both have like 30/45 mins) then Anthrax (1:10) Slayer (1:30) Megadeth (1:30/40) Metallica (2 hours) Would be best day ever!

The other thing is set lists. Metallica would only have to play from the first four albums. Slayer would have to stay away from most 90's stuff. Megadeth would probs as well have to stay within first four albums. and Anthrax would only have to play stuff that was either pre-Bellodona or Bellodona era songs because it was that era (same with the other bands) that cemented them as the big four of thrash.

that would be a great tour but it just wouldn't happen!! not unless Metallica agreed to co-headline with Megadeth. plus Anthrax aren't stable enough to go on a tour like that and i wouldn't be interested in seeing them if they were unless they got Belladonna back in the picture!

What the world really needs is an Iron Maiden/Judas Priest/Black Sabbath/Saxon tour. That would be soooo much better.

There was an interview with Rob Halford in a Metal Hammer a while back where he said he'd be up for something like that and that they might start talking about it once they've finished doing all the Nostrodamus crap. I suppose he might have been talking crap, but I can dream...

Jon asked Halford if he thought there would ever be a Priest/Maiden tour when we went to the Fight premiere, and he gave a pretty diplomatic answer about having "nothing against it" if I remember. I agree though, a British metal billing would excite me more than this proposal.
