New-ish Thrash recommendations

Postby blacktears on Tue Feb 10, 2009 11:34 pm

First up, ARES KINGDOM. I love this band - old school Deathrash at its best, from the ex guitarist of ORDER FROM CHAOS. Lots of brutal speed and slower grinding parts, with ripping solo work. Their 2nd full length - "Incendiary" is due out in the next few months. Chuck Keller is a long term friend of mine, and recently sent me a show from Chicago 2007. The vocals on that nearly blew my eardrums!!

I enjoy the Shadows and Dust album, and I think it's a pretty cool progression from ORDER FROM CHAOS. Really good songwriting, although I haven't listened to it in a while (and haven't got any of the more recent albums).

The album is one of the best albums from the past 5 years or so I reckon - makes me feel like I'm pumped full of steroids - totally destructive deathrash!

Couldn't ever get into Order From Chaos at all though.

I've gone off Order From Chaos a bit as well, despite having a posuer patch  Dawn Bringer is probably the better album, but I think Ares Kingdom is a much better conceived project.

Funny enough, Pete Helmkamp joined Ares Kingdom on stage in June 08 - which ended many years of silence and latent animosity between him and Chuck after the split of OFC.

This was at the "Embrace The Hate Festival" in L.A. You can catch the performance on You Tube at the link below
