Megadeth -End Game

Postby origamikid on Wed Sep 02, 2009 11:32 am

Just got hold of Megadeths End Game promo (released 14th september) and HOLY SHIT, I can quite honestly say i have never been so surprised, impressed and generally shocked as i was when i first turned this on.

All my housemates went out last night, so I took control of the front room, got a megadeth fan around, got some beer on the go and pumped speakers up loud and the first reaction to the onslaught of solos on the intro to the album was literally for us to both jump and "holy fucking shit" was basically flavor of description.

This album has SO so so many face melting solos. Every song has shit loads of solos that are just shredtacular, this really is megadeth like we haven't seen em for 10 years. At times it is Killing is my business raw power mixed with Countdown. Other times its So Good So Far with a flavor of Rust in Peace.

This is best Megadeth album since Countdown - no argument
This is best album i have heard this year - no argument
This is easily the best album i have heard in a long time , all killer on filler. Worst song on the album is End game, but it kinda fits when listened all together! This is the thrash megadeth we have all wanted back!

Get in!

Can't agree there, mate. For me, it's very generic. Nothing Megadeth haven't done before, and better. The best tracks on the album are the ones that were already released. And "The Hardest Part Of Letting Go" is pure shit. I thought UA was a better album.

This is exactly what I reckon to it, or what I've heard of it so far.

Half way through it now, this is sheer joy:D

Edit: I wrote that after 44 Minutes in a haze of excitement, but then it got really boring. Too many plodding, boring songs.

I've just given the album a run through on Youtube, and I gotta say... I was really, really impressed. Certainly the best Megadeth album since Countdown to Extinction, but a few crap songs (Headcrusher and 1320 especially) prevent it from being ball shattering

Really? Do people really think this is a good album?

Christ.

It seems that the two or three 'fast' songs on the album have fooled everyone into thinking this is good. The riffs on those fast songs are pretty boring and unimaginative anyway, and Dave's lyrics and vocals are utter crap, especially on 'This Day We Fight!', which is just a ludicrous song. I do actually like the opening instrumental track quite a bit though, to be fair, and 1,320 is quite fun. But there is soooo much plodding, average bollocks on this album. 44 Minutes, The Hardest Part Of Letting Go... (worst song title ever perhaps?), How The Story Ends, The Right To Go Insane, etc... These are all typical of the rubbish and boring style of modern Megadeth. The fast tracks aren't too bad, and their mere existence on this album makes it an improvement on the last couple... but seriously, this really isn't very good at all, in fact it's pretty much what I expected. Well, slightly better than I expected, but still not good enough to buy, in my opnion anyway.

The best thing about it is the solos, which are technically impressive indeed - but even then, there's hardly any emotion in them whatsoever. That goes for the whole album - it's all very contrived, and I don't feel anything from it at all.

I'm not having any of it. Sorry Dave (that's Mustaine I'm talking to, not thrasherdave). I'd rather listen to Death Magnetic, at least that was quite fun and hilarious. This isn't even hilarious.

Each to their own and all that gay shit. You're right, a lot of it is rather ordinary but its decent music as opposed to dismal like United Abominations was. I think Mustaine hasn't done too bad this time around.

Knowing me, my opinion on it will change again in a few days. But for the time being, I reckon its pretty good! Better than I initially thought.

Death Magnetic is shit! This puts shame on metallica.

I honestly can't see you guys dont like this, of course they will never be able to write or make music like they did 20 years ago, not because hes not angry or hes christian etc, just because they are different people now. They have grown up, they arnt 20 any more they are 40... this album has plenty of really heavy and chugging riffs, the first half blitzes past you like a speeding bullet and even that slower song sounds like promises/im comming home...mixed with some dose of awesomeness when it tempos up.

Lyrics are ok, better then UA and system and of course better then Risk... tbh best lyrics since 1997 I would imagine!

1,302 has awesome lyrics :P

Nah. Death Magnetic is better than this. At least it has a few riffs I can remember after the song has finished.

It's not bad per say but it's nothing special either, rather generic MEGADETH stuff.

I haven't heard it and don't really want to, but by the sounds of the general comments they have tried to use solos to make up for a lack of good riffs, which is always a recipe for a thoroughly unpalatable cake! Riffs are the law.
