yeah, well said bloodkrishna!i love chang cheh movies too and have around 50 of them.
anything starring "the venoms" is amazing.chang cheh made brutal, realistic movies dealing with honour/traitors/brotherhoods and treacherous characters and many other hard hitting themes.
john woo served on some of them when he was young so you can see where john woo learned a lot of skills.
(from brave archer 3)
also another great director was chu yuan.again i have around 30/40 of his titles.he made great magical, mystical, fantasy, swordplay movies.the indoor sets were out of this world and truly sights to behold!!!the "thriller" and
"who done it" plots were always fresh and the writers knew how to make so many twists to keep the audience guessing to the very end.
the fights had a bit of wirework but it wasnt over the top in them days and made the mystic martial art abilities of the characters believable.
(from sentimental swordsman)
last but not least is liu chia liang aka lau kar leung.i got around 20of his shaws titles.his films featured real traditional martial arts styles and weapons techniques, focusing on not losing traditional values but how to modernise/evolve them as times change.also manners, morals and how a new generation should respect its elders/founders usually played a part in the plots.after choreographing many chang cheh film he finally became a director in the mid/late 70s.after the shaws studios ceased movie production he continued to work in hong kong cinema and still is to this day.
(from hreoes of the east)
TRIVIA FACT:notice the guy in the black is gordon liu.some ukthrash forumers will have seen him in kill bill1(bald leader of the crazy 88)and killbill 2(uma thurmans white haired martial arts teacher)
also if anyone is still reading
heres an interesting 5min docu-feature on these legendary movies
Films and all that

Rik can i borrow all your dvds. I thought you were big on them, but fucking hell.
I only really have all the Hong Kong Legends ones and a few with Hwang Jang Lee. But bloody heck, reminds me of a mate of mine who literally had a wall built from VHS tapes, had nearly a thousand.

if you have a van/truck to come pick them up in
yeah above all im a huge fan on far eastern cinema.(Dian i know you know this already and have seen my hong kong trip pics album etc)
my thrash and video games interests dont even come close.
in 2002 i joined screen power, the official uk jackie chan fanclub.it wasnt just some amateur scam where you get a pen and a tshirt/cap etc.it was a uk based company who published "screen power" and "jade screen" magazine.they really took off and got officially endorsed by jackie around the time of his rush hour/hollywood fame and they have thousands of members and are literally the main jackie source in the western world.
since joining i have been on organised trips to los angeles and to hong kong.
in 2002:we went and met Richard Norton who played the bad guy in jackies mr.nice guy/city hunter/twinkle lucky stars movies.
he was in plenty of american 80s action movies and 9films with cynthia rothrock the blond babe female martial artist.
before films Richard Norton was security for the rolling stones/david bowie/abba/fleetwood mac/james taylor and others.
in 2003:15 brits/35yanks/250 japs all went to meet jackie in hong kong.we spent 2days in his prescence having dinners, watching an exclusive premiere of medallion and having a Q+A session in private venues.visited his offices and got the great opportunity to queue and have a photo with him.what an amazing down to earth person he is,doing so much for charity and very patient and generous in putting on these fan events for us every 2/3years.we had a week in HK to do other things/shop/take in the sights etc.
also managed to grab some pics with:jackies 90yr old father/willie chan his manager(no relation)/ken low his bodyguard and member of his 10man stunt team.
2005:was a return to L.A for richard nortons 25years in action party in bel air.among the people there were:big john mcarthy the UFC ref, chuck jeffreys:80s action star who choreographed the blade movies and stunt doubled for wesley snipes.
and to top it all i was 2 seats apart from WWFs rowdy roddy piper who me and another member chatted to.i didnt really have a lot to say as i hate fake ass wrestling pantomime bollox and was never into it as a kid.
chuck norris and lance henrikson couldnt make it due to hurricanes at airports a real shame.
we also got to mingle with cynthia rothrock.she is sooo fit even in her late 40s.she was in shitloads of american and chinese action flicks durin the 80s and early 90s.she was and still is stunning and could certainly fight!(she was 5times karate champion and a student of chuck norris)
the next day we(the 15 screen power members) had a seminar with her and richard norton the next day at her L.A gym.they starred in 9movies together and still good friends.
2007:hong kong again:met the mr.miyagi stereotype who trains van damme in kickboxer movie he is a writer/producer/director these days.we met 2other behind the scenes people too but the main highlight was a visit to the shaw brothers studios as the only westeners ever authourised to visit the place!!for a 2nd time(i missed the 2006 trip to see gordon liu).this was another dream come true.also we had a nice surprise and met lily li there for a Q+A/signing/photo opp.
she was in young master and fights jackie in 2 comedy scenes.she was also in untold amounts of shaws movies.
2008:in september i cant wait to go to hongkong again for a location visit on the set of jackies armour of god 3.and we will also meet ti lung who starred in untold amounts of shaw movies and also starred in john woos original first triad movie a better tomorrow.
another legend we will meet is sammo hung.he went to the same childhood peking opera school of martial arts/acting/singing and learning as jackie|(they both spent 10years there, jackie started at 7yrs old and sammo was 2/3yrs older)
sammo starred in many films with jackie during the 80s as well as having his own following and superstardom career since the 70s.(some of you may have watched his martial law tv series a few years back on channel 5.....hmmm,not his best work)
some of you will recall bruce lee fighting an opponent at the very opening of enter the dragon.they are both in black trunks.sammo is the opponent.
anyhow he is still a legend in his own right having been a stuntman/director/choreographer/actor and pioneer on many hong kong films since the 70s till today, and owning 35of his films i truly cant wait.
check out screen power/jade screen site for more info.and you will probably see a short haired skinny version me in some of the pics on the "trips" section
i would have done a thread on this but knew it would take ages and to explain all this to people at gigs would probably bore some of you and take up a lot of drinkin time.
thanks to this thread i can finally share one of my biggest interests ever!!!
thanks for reading...those of you that still are

So pointless.

Re: Films and all that
I saw Rambo recently and fucking loved it! Shit ending though, after all that madness the ending came far too quick. And I would've liked to have seen John do more in the final scene than just sit behind a turret machine gun for 20 minutes. So maybe he'll be more active in the next one. I can't wait!

Ive seen plots for the new one, it may be city based, and may include a daughter. There was another one also and it didnt includue a Rambo child, but it did include a city.

R.Norton vs Sammo
also Cynthia Rothrock is still a babe in 2005.
i did get individual snaps but had 35mm camera at the time(these pics i pasted from the fan site)
Cynthia and Norton together again for a sequal in china o brien 2
how 80s can you get? richard norton in denim outfit.also mullets galore.check out the bandana dude at the start in the purple vest and later in the leather jacket.how cool is he! he is actually legendary kicker Kieth hiribiyashi aka kieth cooke who later went on to play scorpion AND reptile in mortal kombat 1 and played unmasked sub zero in mortal kombat 2 annihilation.
oh yeah and the funniest is at 4.10mins,you see Billy Blanks(the recent"tae bo"fitness/workout dvd guru)in high tops, baggy zebra print trousers, cumpulsory mullet, and to top it off a skimpy orange vest.classic!
NOTE:the rapid replay cuts of the same move were made by the youtube member and were not multiply replayed in the actual movie.

I liked the new Rambo; I just don't see the point in doing a fifth seeing as the franchise has fulfilled its duty to indulge geeks' nostalgia.
