That's a good point actually Mr Caps. I suppose a lot of the time, people aren't actually trying to preach as such, they just want to let off some steam and music is the perfect way of expressing that. Lovely.

But speaking the truth, I don’t know what's the reason to sing about political stuff, it doesn’t change anything, politicians don’t even care about such lyrics, probably they don’t even listen to metal and I think people are surrounded by politics anyway, so they would rather forget about politics, relax and just have fun during the listening of their fav music.
I'll knock fascists if I want. And certain individuals too (Rumsfeld, Regan, the pope etc). Some people deserve discrimination and criticism.
I don't write political lyrics for the benefit of politicians. I don't expect Gordon Brown to listen to some STD song and go 'oh yeah! shit, never looked at it like that before.' I write political lyrics for one of two reasons:
1) to vent frustration against a target that pisses me off (these are, generally, not very eloquent)
or
2) to raise awareness about a particular issue that seems worthy of discussion eg Abu Ghriab or 'Cancer Alley'.
I was thinking about bands that discriminate and volley abuse at people who listen to their stuff like SOAD, not about singing that Watergate or Iran-Contra affair was a scandal and Nixon and Reagan were swindlers. I suppose that writing stuff like this has got emotional or personal meaning for bands, also, it gives you possibility to share your views about current events, and your listeners can identify with them, which on the one hand is good, common views helps to create some kind of link between musician and listener, but on the other, endless discussions or ponderings over things we aren’t able to change begin to be tiring and depressing. I’m just not sure is it worth to loose your nerves for writing and singing about people who in majority don’t care about us. They don’t care about us, so why should we care about them? However, we live in a free world, so everyone can sing about what they want.

We could argue this but I don't really think we disagree. It can be frustration to sing about the same old issues and not see change, but its what I feel most comfortable doing.
As a personal thing, I have to write about things that matter. As I'm not depressed or self-centered, I don't care to write about personal issues or 'socio-political' lyrics. I'm not childish enough to get involved in a 'scene-mentality'. I also don't care to write about nonsense. My political and ethical beliefs are an important part of what I do and how I act. To write about anything else, for me, feels forced. Believe me, I've tried.
