I just bought myself a Dean ML and already there's a problem with it.
The G String keeps slipping out of position from the nut.
Is this something that I should fix by filing it down a bit, or should I take it back? I've only had it a fucking day!!
I knew I should have got the Ibanez I was looking at.
There was an ibanez that caught my eye, but it had a whammy bar, without a locking tremolo system. Would that not cause it to go out of tune constantly without the locks?

Re: Dean ML
Avoid non-locking trems because they're fucking shit.
You could sort it with a file but it'll probably void your warranty (if you have one) so i would personally take it back.
Buy a Schecter, they're awesome.

Re: Dean ML
Your mistake was buying a Dean ML in the first place.
If you want a cheapish guitar with a tremolo then go for something like an Ibanez (preferrably one without an Edge III trem, as they suck ass) or the aforementioned Schecterrrrrrrrrrzz

Re: Dean ML
As an endorsee i would be obliged to mention CORT flying Vs
But even if i wasnt id say get one - smooth - white - EMG HZs in (high output no battery) Floyd rose - perfect action decent price
Plus you wont ever stumble upon a death (EMO) metal gig to find some cunt playing on the same ibanez you got

I've had no problems with my dean, but yeah take it back, and get the store to fix it, it's easy enough to fix yourself, but the store *should* do it for free, and professionally. Or give you money or a new one or something.

Re: Dean ML
Well, I took it back. They said I could swap it for another one, but I couldn't really find one in the same price range that was as nice. I ended up getting the other Dean ML, which was nicer anyway. Saw some nice Ibanez's but they had non locking tremolos so I stuck with the Deeeeeeeeeeen!!

Haha, I didn't get the lightning bolt one!
It's got a dark brown mahogony like finish. It looks nice!
It plays pretty well too. A part of me was thinking I'd end up not liking it, but thankfully I was wrong!

Re: Dean ML
I own a lot of (usa) DEAN guitars and prefer them by miles to my old Gibsons let alone Ibanez. I assume you have a cheaper Korean version though? Yeah try filing the nut or replace it with a graphite one, they're not that expensive. Now just replace the stock Pickups with a nice set of Dimarzios and you're all set!
I however absolutely dislike trem systems, especially incombination with the ultra thin bolt on neck profiles Ibanez has makes them sound ultra thin IMO. But if you absolutely want a trem an original Floyd or Kahler will be the best.

Re: Dean ML
locking trems sound FAT if you dont have shitty thin little strings on it!
Original Floyds are overrated IMO, at the moment anyways... I hate those shitty screw-down collars to hold the trem arm in! I much much much prefer the TAKEUCHI floyd copies from Japan, got one on my Jackson DK2 (to replace the 'Jackson' trem I had before), and had one on an Aria Pro II.. Never ever had one problem with either trems, and they have screw-in bars so you actually get a response out of the trem for a tiny movement!!
Gorebastard - good choice on an ML, I'm increasingly tempted towards getting one, I'd REALLY prefer an 80s usa made model but doubt thats gonna happen anytime soon :/
