I was having a think about what UK Thrash was like when it started, and how lots of people were just discovering certain new bands and really liking them. Looking at the forum today, I know it's the current 'joke' that thrash is almost a tabboo topic amongst the established posters, but it's kind of a shame that that's now the status quo - it kind of makes me sympathise with the newer or younger members getting disillusioned with this place.
Anyway, this isn't to preach, it's just a declaration of faith: thrash still rules! I really, really like thrash metal! Of course there are plenty of bland throw-aways in the genre, but think of all the Heathens and Destructions and Holy Terrors and Dark Angels and Vio-lences out there that make you want to headbang all day. Of course I like lots of other styles, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who still likes thrash as much as ever!

Re: Thrash Rules.
The only thing that really bugs me about Thrash now is when people adhere to the 'Moronic Thrasher' stereotype and use words like 'poseur'. I was pretty scathing of all things Thrash when I stopped seeing the point in listening to it, but I've actually come round a bit recently and have been listening to the odd Thrash song now and then. I'm not sure it's the music as much as the image that turned me off Thrash in the first place. I reckon I just got sick of getting concussions at gigs, listening to nothing but Thrash and wearing black T-shirts with skulls on them all the time.
Image asides, I listened to a hell of a lot of Thrash bands for around five years and have basically come to the conclusion that I was actually listening to the best three bands - Anthrax, Megadeth and Metallica - before I started getting more into Thrash in the first place. No one's going to agree with me on that but, still.

Re: Thrash Rules.
Yeah, pretty much what you guys said. I don't think our love of thrash should be judged by how vocal we are. I'm not as YAAARGHHHH THRASH RULES!!!1112 as some of our younger posters, but I used to be back then so fair do's.
Bottom line for me is that the UK thrash 'revival' now is better than the UK Thrash scene in the 80's and I don't think we've seen the best of it yet, when this all dies off I can hang up my bass again, put all these albums, EP's and photos in a pile and go "yeah, that was a blast" and will have some great memories and met some ace people on the way.
However, 2008 has probably been one of the best years of my life for underground music and we've still got 3 months left of it. As far as this forum goes we're just too busy to enjoy the moment because we love being silly dickheads and blastwanking....
...and besides, I liek men.

Tr00th to what James has said. Its silly getting ripped for liking thrash or certain thrash bands when it is a thrash forum.
Thrash actually does rule.

Vio-Lence, Megadeth, Early Metallica, err.....
I wouldn't say thrash rules. It's just...pretty good in parts.

So, in other words, there are a handful of Thrash bands that are worth listening to and hundreds that are just a waste of time.

Re: Thrash Rules.
I have never said anything other than i love thrash, i mean, ive listed to it without a break for 26 years. I do like other styles and genres, but i will be a thrash fan still if i live to be 110 years old!!!
Like i have said before, you dont choose the music you enjoy, it is just intrinsic to you what appeals, and if you truly do have a love for something like music, then it stays with you.
As for the younger / newer posters james was refering to, i believ that there have been too few of late who have come on here to actually contribute to the thrash content of this site, more have come to try and talk more crap than the regular posters here already do. Those who have been here a long time, have most likely already said their bit on thrash in early posts, and now use this place as more of a fun palace [sic], but should someone register and have a genuine love for thrash, and desires sensible conversation about it, then i'm sure if they started a thread that made this clear, they would get a (semi) sensible response, even if it only lasted a couple of pages. Those that claim to love thrash and arrive here wanting to make mosh pit orgies and such bollocks, are rightly so going to get shot down in a hail of cybershit!!!!!!
I mean, recent threads on heretic, evil dead, crossover thrash and toxic holocaust have been reasonably sensible and insightful and thrash orientated.

Feemo got it fairly on the head.
