Here are my favorite apps (most are free):

Twitter client
bbc news
DropBox (which everyone should have for their mac/pc anyway)
Tab toolkit (funny little app that play guitar tabs to you, works well on iPad but is good on iPhone/iPod)
Skype
MySpace (so you don't have to see how they've fucked your profile again)
Google Earth coz it looks cool
Modizer - plays mod files from amiga games, pretty sweet interface and pretty accurate playback.
Notesy - Free text editor but it syncs files with dropbox to your mac/pc
TVGuide.co.uk - does what it says.
Planets (tells you where the planets are in the sky atm)

Cut The Rope - cute puzzle game (59p)
Flick Kick Football - simple flick the football game but I really like it and I hate football 59p
Plants Vs Zombies - tower defence game with zombies, pretty cool, about 4 hours of gameplay in it for 59p

By law you have to buy angry birds.

Check out TouchArcade.com as they do regular free games which are decent enough. Thats enough to get you going.

Angry Bird is actually a rip off of an old flash game i used to play in like '07.

The hype is not warranted imo.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Yeah, I'm not a fan either, it's just a rehash..... but most games are a rehash and as rehashes go it's not bad.... just not my thing.

to be fair, angry birds costs 59p and its provided me with hours of entertainment at work, rehash or not. Cut the rope is a great game as well. Osmos is also a good game with a really cool atmospheric music. apart from that got the bbc news and skysports app.

59p is also almost the cost of four packets of transformersnacks, which would give me 500% more pleasure.

Get Angry Birds. Maybe not 100% original but a lot of fun.
