SAVAGE MESSIAH: Spitting Venom

Got the promo copy of this today and it is much better than Headless Cross. Tons of lead guitar work from Silver and new lad James Tyler, with more variety in pace and arrangement, although Dave's voice is still an acquired taste, he has soften his vocal style a little.

I'd hate for this to get overlooked because no one from the band posts on here. Check them out at http://www.myspace.com/savagemessiahmetal

Heard a couple of songs on their MySpace already, awesome stuff! I like Dave's vocals anyway although suppose they are not everyone's cup of tea.

They are playing in Leeds in November so will be going to that :rockdevil:

I love their stuff it's great. Although as far as i'm aware, the recordings are actually Headless Cross... they recorded an album (or most of one at least) and then split up. From what I gathered at the time, the recordings on the Savage Messiah EP were the same ones unless they went out of their way and spent load of money to record it all again to sound exactly the same but with different members..

I could be wrong though and the EP tracks may not even be the ones on the myspace at all.. I really hope Heavens Gate is on there though, that song rips :rockdevil:

I played bass in the band while it was getting up and running, unfortunately since it ended up being based in London i couldn't continue playing in it (i live in birmingham). I played the first gig with them as well actually and it was cool, James Tyler is fucking amazing at guitar, seriously!

Actually the deal with the record is that it was the material that was being recorded for the Headless Cross album. However, aparently evreyone else except Dave put in minimal effort and only spent a few days to a week in the studio while he was left there for a month or more finishing the tracks on his own with Andy Faulkner. It does sound wicked though, thats basically why i was interested in playing for the band in the first place; i thought the material sounded really good! On the record Dave plays most if not all rhythm guitars, and all the leads i think unless he's got James to overdub some new ones. He also plays most of the bass guitar, and some of the drums were done by the old HC drummer. Dave swung a distro deal with Plastic Head so it should be available on HMV.co.uk and all that soon. Its not the full album that was recorded as far as i know, more of an E.P. i think.

I was going to ask actually did you do the bass for this or were you more of a live session bassist.

This is great old fun, I like this. Lovely. Spitting Venom is great. Nice and melodic, which I like very much. Great lead work and melodies, very lovely. I like the vocals. I don't find them brilliant, but I'd say they're fine. Neither too lacking or too intrusive, which is nice. Heavens Gate is good. Wonderful.

EDIT: I just got to that end bit in Heavens Gate, it's fucking brilliant. Well done.

You suck Billy, we know you're just a shadow of Paul's manly rage-ability.

I think Savage Messiah = the win.

Savage Messiah are awsome! I hope they sort their faces out soon and get a bassist. Dave and James are utter masters of guitar, amazing stage presence and increadible songwriting. possibly a little self indulgent at times, but who cares when its soo good!

looking forward to getting the finished EP, and playing with them again soon!

 Is that what he told you? Hmm Dave's as truthful as ever  I spent a month in that studio, recording rhythm guitars for 6 or 7 songs, as well as solos for 6 or 7 songs, I was even there whilst Sal recorded his drum tracks. I also contributed alot of money to the recording too. Apparently Sal and I aren't going to be credited, and there's no sign of my money. But there we go, I learnt some valuable lessons from that experience with Silver!

Yeah that sounds like you got a bit of a bum deal there for sure. Actually he did say you recorded some solos and that but i think he went back over them or something
I think it sucks that you cant get your money back and you wont get credited frankly. What does Dave say when you ask him for it?

Irrespective of the controversies, I think the music sounds really fucking good. Compared to the HC stuff I heard, much more interesting. I hope this is available on the 19th...
