yeah,it was a pricey hobby/console to maintain,i got one for like £250 with fatal fury special.
it was a mixed experience.i nearly took it back after 3 days coz the arcade style joypad was so big and hard to use BUT luckily i found a life saving gadget off a website;a ps2 to NeoGeo controller converter for £20.amazing idea.the games were then playable.
the only other downside was that the difficulty settings were too fucking extreme(even on the lowest setting)as the games were mainly jap imports and the japs are hardcore beat em up gamers.some of the game difficulties varied and were ok/bearable.
there was a great little retro treasure trove in croydon called "xelectrical",a used game/music equipment shop which knew its stuff when it came to games and wasnt your typical crackhead exchange shop, they sold decent collectables and gave discounts/deals on bulk purchases, also gave fair cash/trade prices for you unwanted games depending how rare.
the max i spent on games was £40-£100.the carts were huge like video tapes.
1 on 1 beat em ups were pretty much mainly the only genre for the neo geo but being a fan of streetfighter it was like heaven as they were always top notch and really well designed, and had great music ie;samurai showdown, fatal fury and art of fighting etc.i had 11 games in total which took up a whole damn mini cupboard by my t.v

another flaw was with the memory card(probably one of the first systems to use one)it only saved 2 games max and if you make a third save you would then wipe off one of the others.basicly it was shit!

after realising most of the games were pretty much the same overall formula(streetfighter clones)with just different themes/backgrounds/characters,combat systems etc and also getting so frustrated at not being able to complete any of them coz of the ridiculous difficulties,i soon got bored and traded it all for some pristine snes r.p.g's/new ps2 releases.i got a fair exchange and it was also nice to have some space in that cupboard again.

also any suckers who paid silly money for the neogeo metal slug carts(like £800-£1000)are idiots as you metal slug 1-6 collection is on ps2 for like £15.

This makes me want to change my avatar back to the Rock n Roll Racing one.
You cunts, I was one of the first to have a computer game avatar, before I changed it to Cohagen.
