You use Spybot as the remover, rather than the protection. It can find problems a lot better than most.

Yes, I'm very aware of that now James. However, as with media companies taking down videos from YouTube, porn stars also seem to have developed some savoir and are having stuff taken down from xvideos.com. And so I had to venture into the PC AIDS-ridden world of porn.

Get Avast Home edition from here: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html. You'll need to register it but you just need to put your email address in.

Also get Lavasoft AdAware from the link given earlier. Make sure both of them are up tp date and make sure you uninstall any other antivirus you've got installed (Norton, McAfee etc). When Avast asks to do a boot-scan, let it do it and delete anything it finds.

That should do it :)

Is there a way I could keep Norton on? I quite like it and have never had any problems with it.

Nothing's sorting this thing out like:

'Your computer was infected by Trojan.Win32.Obfuscated.gc
It's dangerous for your system, some files can be lost and your browser can be slow!

Click OK to download the antispyware program to clean your computer! (Recommended)

OK Cancel'

Does that mean anything to anyone?

Sounds like some company is trying to trick you into downloading their even worse software.

I personally think Norton is the work of Satan, it slows everything down to the point where it takes about 5 minutes for the computer to boot up - I cleaned a flatmate's laptop that took 10 minutes from pressing the power button to a usable desktop, taking Norton off cut it in half.

My way of looking at it is that if Norton isn't good enough to stop your PC downloading whatever it's got now, then it isn't worth having. That message you've got is basically Norton's way of telling you that it can't solve the problem but another piece of software that costs an arm and a leg can.

Does avast just delete whatever it finds, or am I meant to be doing something when it pops up saying "virus database has been updated" in that smooth American accent?

FOOLS!

It's not working!

I did everything you said and yet that:

'Your computer was infected by Trojan.Win32.Obfuscated.gc
It's dangerous for your system, some files can be lost and your browser can be slow!

Click OK to download the antispyware program to clean your computer! (Recommended)

OK Cancel'

message appears when I'm clicking on folders.

*sobs uncontrollably*

I've been doing stuff for like two days now. This virus is more stubborn than an Iraqi insurgent.
