I've noticed that some people on here have got pretty cool jobs, like writing for magazines or promoting/organizing gigs and shit... How do people get kick arse jobs like that?
What other cool jobs do some of you people have?
And, how do you get started doing it? I don't wanna be doing the same shitty warehouse crap all my life.
Also, is it possible to live off gigging with a band? Does anyone gig often enough to not have to work? The most I've been paid for a gig is £20! Which sucks.
What do you do?

I'm pretty sure that no-one on here makes a living off gigging, writing for magazines or promoting gigs. There's no money at all in the first and last, and I'm pretty sure almost all the Terrorizer writers are freelancers.

Promoting gigs sadly isn't my job and I have never made a penny from it! Well worth it though!
For my 'real' job however I work with pornogrpahy - I handle premium rate telephone and text services and nearly all my work revolves around adult lines, artwork etc. Thats nearly as cool...

I do bloody hell.
When I finish bloody hell this year though, I will start working in pubs and bars whilst putting on gigs and so in a couple of years I can open a venue. Now that would be a dream come true. And don't worry, Friday night is thrash night and it's a £1 a pint. Now that would make everyone's dreams come true...

I work with kids with behavioural problems. I have just got back from a holiday and I am really enjoying it. I have a fuckload of stories, some funny some really not. One of the least pleasurable experiences was when I was trying to calm down this kid and he was having none of it. He spat at me (which happens quite a lot) and a I got a gobfull in my mouth. The look o my face made him know he had crossed a line. He still didn't come bac to class the little cunt. Oh and I get paid fuck all. In september I am doing my PGCE course and then I will teach for a year. At some point I am going to become a fulltime revolutionary and be arrested for attempting to vandalise/destory the House of Commons. Then I will finally end up doing some time and we shall see from there...

I spent 20 years as a butcher, reaching the dizzy heights of owning my own shop (well concession in a Kwik-Save), but they shut em all down, and i left butchery last year. I have been a postie now for a year and get paid to walk round in this sunshine . In 1995, i started a small mail order called THORONATH, but that didnt really work out as i was selling new CDs and stuff which were costing me £7 from plastic head, and with the minimum order quantities n stuff, i wasnt making any cash. I got in touch with Bernard Doe (ex METAL FORCES editor) and with £500 purchased a collection of rare thrash records and started THRASHING RAGE, which has been more of a hobby til last year when i registered it as a proper business and opened an ebay shop. So now, i walk about and get paid in the mornings, and sit about and get paid in the afternoons
Back in 1986, ian and i decided to start a fanzine dedicated to thrash, we had interviews lined up with Onslaught, Agent Steel and Nuclear Assault till that tour was cancelled, and then the zine just sort of never happened, ian went to poly, i found a girlfriend, and we drifted apart for a few years. I was working in my dads butchers shop in 1995 when in walked ian, and we got talking bout old times again, and the zine was born. THe first issue of DEATH TO DEAD THINGS was released in 95, and continued for 4-5 years until family and work commitments put an end to it, but ian went on to write for record collector and terrorizer mags, and i as said earlier got my own shop, but its cool that we both had stayed loyal to the music we were into as teens, when so many of the people we knew who used to be into it werent any more!!

Woah, well done for staying tr00 mort.
I'm a journalism student. I eat, drink and sleep pretty much.
Oh I also work for the press association, in an office taking calls from idiot journalists and typing them up, then they go off to the papers. Technically, I could type any old bollocks and send it off under a journalists name. However, they do that anyway. HA.

I'm a bloody student, but luckily I won't be anymore in one month and two days! I've been doing a music production degree, which has been a mixture of great fun and great shit. But it has led to me doing one of the things I've been wanting to do for years, which is making a wonderful concept album. It feels like the first part of my life is now complete, and now it's time to start Part 2.
In Part 2 of my life, I don't know what I'll do. I plan to start doing some engineering sessions in a local recording studio, and perhaps I'll look into becoming a film/tv music person, but to be honest I'm still a bit confused as to what I really want to do with my life, as I suppose most people in the world are.
Well, I know what I really want to do, but, well, they say that's a tad unrealistic. But fuck it, I'm going to try.
