Half of the vinyls I have have crap cover art and very few pictures of the band/information about them.

Sure, if you listen to Pearl Jam then it's cool to have the CD/LP because they do slightly different things with the artwork and packaging.

I don't see why you should need visual aids to appreciate music. I've always found that switching off all the lights and lying on my bed in the dark is the best way to take in music.

I used to like having a cd collection, but in the end either my brother knicked them all or they got scratched or they get trodden on when we have a piss up. So much so over the years that i hardly own any cd s anymore. Having the mp3's is more efficient for me

Iain, you must have bought some really crap albums on LP then!!! All of the thrash/metal LPs I've sen have had loads of stuff in the booklet, collages, lyrics, all of it!

Some CD releases can suck though (ie - Century Media thrash re-releases  ), but what if your computer breaks??? So much for having many mp3s, I know, I have fucking loads, but I want all the CDs possible (I don't have a record player, and vinyls are a pain in the ass for me), if my computer was to break all I can say is 'I had this many albums by this many bands', kinda sucks.... Plus it great getting a new CD, especially one you've been waiting for ages to arrive, then you open the outside plasticy bit and get the disc out, whack it on, and look at the booklet.. The only thing I enjoy about the Century CDs are those little introductions to the album, they're great (although not ALL the facts are 100% accurate..).

One more tihng about CDs, I have a totally AMAZING stereo system, and when compared to the shitty little speakers on my computer, there's no comparison AT ALL!!!!

And as someone said, we are lucky to have a choice to be able to use any media format pretty much, go future people!!!

I've got some pretty good albums on vinyl. The ones imported by Music For Nations seem to be the ones with the most boring liner notes...

That's why I have my MP3s on an external Hard Drive. My computer did once break and I lost EVERYTHING!

I don't particularly like waiting for things, even if I know it's going to be great. I don't know, I just don't feel any kind of giddy excitement standing at the window waiting for the Postman to turn up.

I have pretty good speakers for my PC. I'm considering getting a better soundcard too. I don't have a CD player at the moment, the fucking laser (or however they work) on mine broke.

I only get that with new albums that I really want to hear, like the new SymX album, when that comes out I'm gonna be jizzing in my pants waiting for the postie!

I have wank comp speakers and no actual soundcard.. :( only the motherboard output.. And the stereo I have is very old-tech (like 1970s or something) and I'm not even sure how I'd go about attaching it to my comp anyways :P

What size external HD you got??

Im just waiting till they start doing the DVD audio more, I dont have a DVD-A player but they have one at uni and we listened to Peace Sells with all the multi-channeling, videos and other extras, but do people really want about 5 copies of the same album?

Thing is people are prefering the mp3 format's compression as oppossed to other formats which give the better sound quailty...

This is true, there is that FLAC or lossless format but i just can't get on with it. An example of this is the Exodus discography i saw the other day, a lession in violence is 37mb for one song. I just don't have that kind of room.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Thank the Police coming straight from the underground...

that is certainly true with some types of music. I love listening to the first 2 abruptum albums, or stuff like inade or endura like that, the more atmospheric stuff. It cant be apprieciated unless you absorb yourself in it!!

As for the collecting, well i spose that depends on why u collect them. I never play any of my dark angel collection, i have the tracks elsewhere, but i collect them as a hobby, and the thrill i get when i find an item i dont already have is great. I have always collected records though from an early age, as ian will testify. Dont get me started on the metallica collection i had in the late 80s......... it would need a whole new thread!!!!!

The only fault with vinyl is that sometimes it can stick and you get the same thing over and over and over and over. Get the point Iain??????
