Yeah you tits, both horrible statements and totally hypocritical, thinking that you are above someone like that is immature anyway, get a grip and pull your socks up.

I do think John Petrucii (spelling sorry...) is an amazing guitar player he really is and i think the keyboardist and drummer are some of the best ive heard...but the music can get very boring and gets to a point where it seems like its still going on longer and longer because it thinks it should.
Yeah, in my opinion Dream Theater are the perfect example for this thread - I don't care how much they've practised their instruments, they are a totally worthless band to me regarding enjoyment factor.

Re: Musicianship
Everyone should just listen to Fleetwood Mac more. Not their bluesy shite, though. The decent stuff, like Dreams and Little Lies. Lindsay Buckingham is well underrated as a guitarist (see the solo in Gypsy).

Re: Musicianship
Musicianshup still hasn't been explained properly... plenty of great guitar players who don't really know what they're playing, but they know how to write a tasty riff and a damn good metal song... I suppose you have to have some level of proficiency on your instrument to be in a band...
Dream Theater do bore me... I just can't get into them.... and yes, I've tried, but Symphony X would be my choice when it comes to classical/prog power metal... Michael Romeo is a genius, and before anyone goes on about him being a fret wanker or whatever- imagine you had played guitar and studied music for the last 20 years.... would you really be happy to not play a solo or not write something to the full of your ability?
that's musicianship really... just people playing stuff... some are better and actually know what they're doing, some are better and don't know what they're doing.... some are worse.... some are better.... preference

I largely get into bands based on their hair cuts and what shoes they're wearing.

Re: Musicianship
I don't think people who talk shit about Malmsteen have actually listened to his first 4 albums, or his 7th and 8th albums (the ones with Michael Vescera singing). For the most part, they are full of classic well written catchy rock/metal songs - great singers throughout (Mark Boals = win) and splendid soloing. Obviously he went off the boil in recent times but songs such as 'Vengeance', 'The Seventh Sign' and 'Fire' are amazing and would rock the socks off even the most ardent Yngwie detractor if they just gave them a chance. Even the gayer stuff with Goran Edman singing has its moments.
Yngwie was actually on Blabbermouth recently talking about this very topic recently, and was complaining that Music is the only field where excellence is frowned upon for some reason - and I agree, it's bullshit. If people can't be arsed putting the practicing don't hate those who can be arsed.

Bloody spot on. Vengeance is bloody mighty. I'm sick of people calling talent 'soulless', just because you can't run around like fucktard to their music.
It's like when everyone hates Man U because they're awesome at football.
