So, incase anyone was unaware, Violator are not playing the UK on theor European tour this summer, Their management wanted a LOT of money per gig which was not reciprecated well by promoters and as such now they are not playing the UK. Sucks.
I might be renting a car to go to France, if anyone is interested get in touch, I might not though, depends on time off work etc.
Safe and safer,
Steve

Wow, that's amazing. So amazing I thought you were joking. I can't believe any promoters in Europe are willing to give them that. Maybe they just didn't want to play the uk they are great bands but they aren't gonna pull an audience big enough to warrant that.

Re: Violator not playing the UK
That is pretty much what I said Daz you are totally correct, In all honesty I think both bands are mediocre at best and would do better playing for petrol money, food and a place to sleep, but that is my opinion...but like many emails in get in my inbox I replied out of courtesy.
Tbh I dont think its the band its the actual tour booker.
You might find that the tour booker has used his/hers own money to fly them from Brazil/America, so we are talking like 2 grand for say 8 people? to the mainland (Europe) and the bands are getting a small percentage of that as there guarantee, on top of that IF a band that is'nt from the EU wants to play the UK they usually have to get working visa's/or be smuggled in (which does happen, but its not worth the risk)
As you can imagine visa's are'nt cheap and the government does not see the difference between Violator and Britney Spears, they see it as they come into our country and perform and make money then leave the country (nice way to earn a living) granted Ms Spears is going to make thousands of pounds in merch sales compared to Violator the visa's still cost the same regardless who you are.
Soooooooo inbetween paying for a visa for a country you are going to only play say 4 dates/Ferry over and the petrol you have to pay for whereever you go your looking to be in the red even before you step into the UK.
Hence the stupid super duper costs the Tour Booker has to make his own money back from his initial investment (flights, advertising tour in magazines) and the bands need to survive on tour ie food/petrol to get to the next gig and then of course the costs of printing tshirts etc,Most bands are in debt before they tour.
When I went on tour with Ghoul last september it was a 15 date tour in 19 countries in Europe so a hell of alot of driving, we broke even. I worked 15 hour days loved every minute of it got my money (£250) back for my flights over to Germany and back to Birmingham.
Went into HMV and bought Iron Maiden - Flight 666 on blu ray and just had enough money to get the bus back home haha

Cheers for that Povey. It's really good to hear from the horse's mouth as it were. Bands should be more open about how the business works (or doesn't). Maybe fans would be more forgiving when tshirts cost £20.

Re: Violator not playing the UK
Everything here is spot on and 100% accurate.
I tried to get them over for the Thrash Bash, and it was just waaaaaay too much for anyone to undertake. I thought I could but, when it finally died on it's arse, I did the maths a bit better and realised that it would've probably been a disaster. Thank god there was other dates to be rejected because if it was just me, I'd have barreled in without the consequences.
I also got offered Fueled By Fire in August, and that was still £500!!! :O

Oh, and Steve, if you ARE going to France for Violator, I would urge you to go see them in Lille as Infinite Translation are supporting and they are fucking epic.

It's not business anymore. It's more like the music rape alley.

This is what happens when people think they can make a living out of extreme metal.
