I think it would be a good idea if I wore earplugs at gigs/rehearsals etc.
Who wears them here, and if so what kind are good?

Rehearsals, yes. Very much so.
Gigs, no. Not if you appreciate the sound quality anyway.

Re: Ear Plugs
Yeah, definitely rehearsals. I use Elacin ear plugs, they have a nice little hole to let the enjoyable frequencies in whilst cutting out the harmful ones, nice for musicians. I got them from the local shop for local people for £15, then just realised I could've got them for cheaper here: http://www.hearforlife.co.uk/product_de ... 20earplugs
I sometimes use earplugs for gigs, depending on what/where the gig is. I had to use them for the Sabbat gig, for example, because it was so fucking loud and ridiculous. This is common in small venues, obviously. But at amazing gigs like Witchcraft at the Underworld where the sound engineer actually knows what he's doing, I don't always need to use my plugs because the sound is great and not too loud. And at massive arenas an d that sort of thing I never really find that I need to wear them. Just at little venues like Bar Monsta and all that rubbish.
And finally, as for gigs that I'm playing, I always use earplugs, because it's always too loud on stage, especially with those naughty Damnas boys.

Re: Ear Plugs
I kept meaning to wear them to gigs back when I had my locks because you can hide them under it. I reckon about every Metal gig I've ever been to - with the weird exception of Suffocation - I've struggled to hear the lead guitarist. It seems as if you block you ears, though, you can hear solos and so forth better. I never bothered using earplugs when I played in bands though. I found the monitors in front of you were fine for that.

Oh and as you're a drummer Lord Ashbey, you should definitely wear ear plugs on stage, otherwise the snare drum will slowly but surely destroy you.

Re: Ear Plugs
Ah yes, for some reason I assumed you wanted them for going to gigs. As a drummer, many yes. Wear them many.

People who sacrifice decent overall sound for being able to hear when they're 60.

Re: Ear Plugs
I always wear ear plugs at gigs. Sometimes I find it makes it sound better, cos it cuts out all the fuzzy crackly stuff. I used to try and cover up the fact I was wearing them, but I don't care now. Music is one of the most important things in my life, and something I'd really still like to appreciate when I'm knocking on a bit. What's the point in knowingly wrecking you hearing? If my hearing went, well.... that would be one of the shittest things ever.

Re: Ear Plugs
I've tried the earplug thing at gigs, and all I can ever hear is the drums.

Re: Ear Plugs
Rehearsal rooms are just far too loud, I'm pretty sure I've done some serious damage to my hearing just from being in them without any sort of protection, a decent set of ear plugs is essential.
As for gigs I'd really like to start wearing ear plugs to them, especially when I have to sit through a few shit support bands. I really don't like the idea of some awful bands ruining my hearing even more.

Re: Ear Plugs
I meant both going to gigs and playing them, and rehearsing as well. I will definitely look into getting some.
A also have these big industrial ear muffs which are the same sort pneumatic drillers are meant to wear - they are excellent for rehearsing drums on my own, but they are maybe a bit excessive for jamming, and they also look silly so clearly aren't to be worn in a venue either!

Yeah, you can't wear those things on your head in public. You'll look like Brad Delson!
