Chinese Democracy - First Impressions

Postby origamikid on Fri Nov 21, 2008 8:55 pm

Ok i am listening to Chinese Democracy and i have to say....not good.

I must admit that i was/ am a bit of a fan. Not much can come close to a bit of G&R while chillin at the beach with some friends and a cold beer but this new album doesnt have this feel. Its very boring, its....just missing something. The solos sound like the guitarist is trying to compensate for not being slash and they just sound really forced and AXl just cant do what he used to do vocal wise.

It sounds very NIN influenced and something else which i cant quite put my finger on. Thier is way to much of Axl just doing a little scream, warm up thing. Alot of effects on guitar and drums and as a whole its a very dissapointing and almost painful listen at times.

You can all listen : http://www.myspace.com/gunsnroses

but ...yea.. i have no idea what hes going for, cause it aint the - cool tunes, biker crusing music that we all loved. Where have the songs like paradice city and welcome to the jungle gone? Someone please tell me :'(

yea i wouldnt man, its just lost all its greasy riffs and .... i think that Guns and Roses were always a <i> band <i> . Just a couple of friends getting drugged up and writing some songs in a sunny calafornia or wherever they are from...and this is just an AXL side project.

Not good

Stop misapplying your own catchphrases.

I have no idea whether I'll like it or not as I haven't even heard the demos of the album, but it's probably the only album that has come out in the past two years I'd consider paying for based on the band's reputation alone. Listening now...

I'm not even going to listen to it I'm just going to assume it's absolute rubbish. I'm not even a big fan of GNR anyway, the first album has some quality stuff but that's about it for me.

Bah!

I've grown weary of listening to this. Saying that, I was listening to Level 42 before I started so anything else would have sounded equally uninspiring.

Yeah this.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Thank the Police coming straight from the underground...

I don't like it all. Listened to some of the tracks on their Myspace, and it's as rubbish as I expected it to be. I can't believe after 17 years and 13 million dollars, this is what they come up with. The bland music seems to be washed with all these rubbish effects and silly things. And then suddenly out of nowhere comes a shredding guitar solo that seems out of place... rubbish. The strings and piano sound rubbish. His vocals sound really fake a lot of the time too, I don't quite know what it is.

Then again, I never really liked Guns N Roses that much anyway. Well I like some of their stuff... and this is much worse than the stuff that I liked, so...

Why did it cost so much money? They should have spent the money paying someone like Linda Perry to write all their songs for them. It worked for Christina Aguilera.

Well, I imagine 17 years of studio time would've been pretty expensive... I think Def Leppard managed some kind of similar madness, but on a lesser scale, with Hysteria. These bloody idiots.

You have to spend money to make money and Def Leppard made lots of money from Hysteria. Seven singles from a 12-song album is pretty good going. They got to hang around with the guy that was banging Shania Twain too. You do have to remember that Hysteria is pretty much the best album of all time as well.
