Johnny Tightlips wrote:As usual, I'd have to agree with Iain. KEA isn't such a bad album, but I don't think it deserves all the hype. Certainly not to be considered one of the best thrash albums etc...

To me, KEA was just the beginning of something huge. It did not perfect thrash in any way or form. If I want to listen to top quality thrash, I'd listen to bands like Forbidden, Vendetta, Vio-lence etc... If I want to listen to an album that paved the way, just for the sake of listening to it, I'll listen to KEA.

When I say 'paved the way' though, bear in mind I'm not talking about how it was influential in terms of musical quality. It seems more like bands said "Fuck, we can do thrash better than that!". And they did.

See what you're saying, but almost completely disagree.

KEA has to be one of my all time favourite thrash albums. Some people mightn't think it has the best blah blah blah but fuck it, its raw, fast and heavy, exactly what a great thrash album should be.

I think most of the bias towards this album is due to what metallica have become since then which is a shame really. If you were back in the 80s when this album came out it would be one the greatest thing youd have heard in your life :rockdevil:

Seek and Destroy, OBVIOUSLY. Whiplash is a close second.

Only those who weren't around in the early 80's would critisise Kill Em All. At the time (or even a year later when I got it) it fucking hands down beat everything in sight (except for Slayer and Mercyful Fate). And since when were Exodus "Virtuosos"???? If you were talking about Mercyful Fate I could understand...

Great album. "Seek And Destroy" for me, by a hair over "Whiplash" and "Hit The Lights".

Tom Hunting is one of the best drummers ever to play on a Thrash album and Gary Holt is far more capable of writing a riff than James Hetfield but I'd put him in place of Hammett because I also prefer Holt's solos to Hammett's.

I cant believe no one has voted for The Four Horsemen, that song rules!

Maybe I should have... Then again it was a harsh descision between Metal Militia and No Remorse and the later got the vote.

Metallica were huge because they didnt churn out album after album of thrash but instead progressed as a band and created different music.

Comparing KEA to RTL is like comparing death metal to doom, the difference is huge.

...but it's not 1983 anymore :) Times have changed, thrash has moved on and got a LOT better.

I do like the riff that's in the Horsemen, that isn't in Mechanix, it's a shame that's not in the song, but I'm guessing Het wrote that after he left?

Fucking hell...no it ain't 1983 anymore, that isn't Kill Em All's fault, it can only stand as a document of it's time. KEA is chock full of killer thrash riffs and true adrenalin, and its influence is still felt in metal today. It LEAD THE WAY...geddit???
