I've been writing for Terrorizer since 2001 and before that I produced a fanzine along with Mort, making a total of 13 years. As a number of you have noticed Terrorizer isn't the magazine it once was. Since the change of Editor last year, along with the loss of Lisa and Damien it has become a lot less thrash friendly, and as one of the writers inherited by the new Editor I get the feeling I am no longer wanted. I came close to jacking it in a few years ago and then I discovered UK Thrash and found a cause I wanted to support, but now I am at that point again. In the last few months I have been comissioned to write Breaking Faces features on H.O.D., Elimination and Savage Messiah, these have been submitted but no matter how many times I email Mr Editor I can't get him to tell me when they'll be published. He doesn't reply or fobs me off with an excuse. I think I've sent him about a dozen emails on this subject in the last two months and I am getting sick and tired of not trying to lose my temper with him.
Life is very busy at the moment, I've just been promoted at work and am writing up an MSc, I also have a worldwide Thrash scene report on the back
boiler so if I pack in now it would mean letting all the bands down who have sent me CDs which I don't want to do. I enjoy the creative side to
writing but am sick of all the crap that goes with it. So my problem is this: should I carry on writing or pack it in?

Re: On the horns of a dilemma
Bloody hell man, talk about asking a big one.
I guess it comes down to personal satisfaction, if you feel you are getting enough. Otherwise i would suggest trying to put out some feelers to other magazines (i don't really need to name any). I would also suggest getting back on board with us Ziney boys as basically we have all the organization of a robot made of turds.... that is obviously if you have enough time.
I for one enjoy your articles whenever i see them Terrorizer it gives me a secret smile on the inside.

Its a pity you cant do what a certain other person did and start your own magazine.
Keep up the work man, Reanimator owes a lot of thanks for the number of gigs you have always reviewed for us in the magazine and general support in a whole.
Ive not read any magazine for a number of years. As it seems these days its who can pay most for a feature they will be in the magazine and is probably a reason why your feature is always pushed back

Re: On the horns of a dilemma
I only bought the magazine when you wrote stuff in it!
...and I only check each issue on the 20ish of each month to see if we're in it
No emotional blackmail like, but as far as the future of the mag is - if you go the turd will flow.

Ooooooff!
On one hand, my old Granny used to say "If you dont enjoy somethin, dont do it, it's not worth it!" I tend to agree, even tho I'm in the same/similar boat, unsatisfied in a job I cant see goin anywhere or gettin better!
On the other hand, as I find myself tellin people, includin myself, It's called "work" for a reason, if you enjoyed it, they"d call it "fun"!
Not the best advice I know, but as I said, I'm in a similar situation!!

Terrorizer is about shitty Droning Black Metal bands that no-one could ever possibly like now
If you leave, it'll just make the magazine even worse.

Re: On the horns of a dilemma
Yeah, Terrorizer has indeed disappeared up it's own arse..
It's always nice to see our bois get featured, and I hope they continue to, but I can't see anything changing anytime soon, especially after what you've said.
Stick at it though for now, I hope your bits aren't comparable to the band playing going down on a sinking ship..

Okay then: I'll stay.
I'll keep emailing Mr Ed each day until I get a decent reply. I might even re-write my submissions and try to introduce an experimental droning back metal power electronics angle to thrash!
Thanks for all the kind comments guys, I knew I could rely on you for subjective comments.

You could possibly voice these displeasures with the editor and if he's just a dick about it then it'll just give you another reason to leave, theres plenty of people out there that will agree Terrorizer is pretty bollocks now, I don't even bother flicking through it in the WH Smiths at the train station anymore. I have only ever bought 1 copy though.

Surely their sales have been crippled anyway? Do you have the numbers handy? I can't imagine anyone but those people that actually get people to call them by their 'Black Metal' names (dickheads) buy it now.

Re: On the horns of a dilemma
Though you've made a decision, personally I think you should quit. Considering they are killing off their thrash fan base, it questions whether your reviews or input are going to be appreciated beyond the five or so bands loyal to this website. It seems like they are being absolute cunts to be honest. I am all for a diverse and non-partisan magazine but thrash is easily a valid part to the Terrorizer canon. I don't see why they have to turn the resurgence into some sort of deluded parody.

Me neither, most of the bands seem to be doing a good enough job of this on their own.
