I fucking hate it when people tell me what I can and can't eat. Last week, I hacked down this kid and started eating his guts. Right. The above paragraph is clealy not an equal comparison, I put it there as a challenge. Obviously, humans have a fair degree of superiority over other animals. One of these strengths lies in their ability to think philosophically and ethically. Ethics are part of our evolution. We have managed to adapt ourselves socially as well as physically. Therefore, rape is no longer acceptable, racism is far less common and cannibalism and incest reside almost entirely in the past. Of course, certain individuals develop particular ethical stances before others. I think this is the case with vegetarianism. Like we can now look back at things like the crusades, the holocaust and the deep South lynchings as gross abhorations of the human legacy, so too will many look back at animal exploitation with a similar mentality. Note, I am not saying these things are equal. They are on a scale. While human (generally male) abuse of other humans of all variations is despicable, abuse of animals and (after that) abuse of nature are similarly disgraces that need to be limited.

You do not need animal flesh to be healthy. If that was the case, I'd be the obese fucker and the majority wouldn't be meat eaters. Therefore, meat is little more than a luxury or a reflection of your own personal laziness. Now, consider that someone wanted to kill you because they felt it would be enjoyable. Or they tacitly supported your death with their indifference. You'd be horrorfied. Animals find death undesirable too, they just are not sufficiently advanced to express this as well as a human.

As for imposing my view. I was quite happy to keep shtum. However, if some people are going to go all over vegetarianism and get all over meat eating I feel obliged to respond.

Well, there was some good points in there. Although I can't imagine anyone trying to take my steak away from me. I still think comparing eating meat to cannibalism is a rather silly point though. After all, animals (or at least carnivores) have always eaten weaker animals to survive. Thats why the human race didnt fall on its arse on day two...

I don't have anything against anyone eating anything they want (except poo pie), but I think eating just vegetables is a bad idea.... and I like the taste of meat

I wouldn't make a serious judgement on anyone who chose not to eat a certain foodstuff, be that meat, additives, non-organic or whatever, so long as they didn't pass judgement on me if my choices were different. I have a vegetarian mother and sister, and friends who choose that option too, but there is never any animosity because of it. Just because i am a butcher, it doesn't mean i approve of animal cruelty, and without wishing to open the whole discussion further, i am sickened by some of the thing that people do to other living things (dog fighting, foxhunting, badger baiting etc). As civilized creatures, the whole meat production thing is now done the most humanely it has ever been done, and the issues often used by ALF and other terrorist organisations, to give a false impression are purely in the minority and are sensationalist. I possess compasion, humanity, sympathy and other traits, but i eat meat! It is possible no matter what the sensationalists may have you believe!!!
