Basically, moar Varg stories please.

There's nothing more to tell about the letters. They were pretty basic, half page affairs - straight to business stuff. He was obviously not great with English back then, and his writing was a bit of a scrawl.

I had a much more extended correspondence with guys like Samoth, especially during his prison sentence.

Somewhere i have an unpublished interview with samoth done while he was in prison that was going in our (terrorizer ian and mine's) zine, but it never did, i will have to find it out. Maybe he was acting hard in it, but i seem to remember he was pretty unrepentant!

I interviewed a few people who were from the norwiegen scene in the 90s, but all after all the shit. The most bizzare interview was with Satyr, who spent half the interview talking about football, particularly Liverpool, as they are who he supports

I also have copies of many original handwritten letters from euronymous, dead and hellhammer most of which are pretty boring TBH, although there was a lot of the "acting evil" stuff in a lot of them. What never fails to make me chuckle is the original outro to the deathcrush album (on the posercorpse label) whih sounded like chip n dale, but which was dropped for the DSP and subsequent pressings, presumably as it no longer fitted in with their "evil" image. :-k

Satyr is a liverpool fan? Amazing :D Do you have a transcript or anything?

We, the people, basically want in general more black metal people stories.

I'll have to locate and scan through those old Samoth letters. Nothing leaps out at me as a "story" right now. I know he viewed his church burning connections as the immature condition of youth.

We were doing a lot of deals for his early releases on Nocturnal Art Productions - Emperor - "As the Shadows Rise" 7", Arcturus - "Constellation" MCD, Ildjarn-Nidhogg split 7" & Tormentor - "Anno Domini". There was a lot of chat & gossip about "scene" people we both knew too. I originally contacted him to get the Thou Shalt Suffer demo back in '91, after picking up the 7" from Vinyl Solution.

Something I forgot about that Emperor gig at the Dome was when Faust screamed something loudly into the mike and pointed at Ferenc on the mixing desk. Ferenc looked at him blankly, so he screamed it again. "Can't understand you mate, what are you saying?!" said Ferenc. To which Faust whispered in the mike, "More bass in the monitor, please". That gave a lot of the audience a good chuckle.

I also remember being in the toilets when Faust was having an altercation with a Kerrang! journalist for not taking Black Metal seriously and making a joke out it in the mag. I think that was Jason Arnopp, if I remember right. Arnopp was looking a bit worried at this point, but it broke up as I left the toilets.

This was shortly after Cradle of Filth had got banned from appearing in Kerrang! when Dani had taken a swing at the editor in his office, when he went there for a meeting with Nihil from Cacophonous Records. The Kerrang! people were so worried about Black Metal reprisals that they had the locks changed and you then needed a pass to get in there. I got that from Tiziana, who was working for the German Kerrang! at this time, but was based at the UK offices in Carnaby Street.

By the way, in a lot of those early Cradle interviews, all the occult/satanic questions were handled by Nihil, who styled himself as a "sinister magician". This was a guy who had all kinds of extreme films and material at his granny flat attached to his parent's home near Chelmsford. However, he got upset when Tiziana said "fuck" loudly, as he didn't want his mother hearing such bad language, ha ha.

I do remember some later Mayhem stories - like going to the after-show party of Mayhem, when they played the LA2 the first time in '97. I guess most of you know that Necrobutcher is a bit of a coke-head & druggie and had brought a lot of that over with him and a lot of that was being snorted backstage, at Garlic & Shots and the nightclub we ended up in to the early hours of the morning.

I also remember when they played Bradford and the coach stopped off at Rich Walker's place at 105 Garden Street in Ravensthorpe for a visit. Everyone came in but Maniac, who was miserable and sat on the coach, pretending to read a Marquis de Sade book.

We all stood at the front window of the house pulling faces at him, whilst he pretended he hadn't noticed us, ha ha.

Oh yeah, as Michael Moynihan's name has come up with his "Lords of Chaos" book, I think it only fair to bring him into this post.

I know Moynihan objects and denies any right-wing affiliations, but when Tiziana visited his house in Portland, she reported that his house was full of Nazi flags and memorabilia and that they listened to Hitler speeches and watched the Leni Riefenstahl film of the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

Allegedly,so was the rumour at the time, he fell out with collaborator Boyd Rice over Rice's handicapped child. His views was that Rice should stick to his Eugenics philisophy and that the birth should have been terminated, or that he should kill the child. That might be just shit stiring from someone I knew that knew them both.

In any case, I was never much a fan of his band, Blood Anus, or whatever they were called
