Kind of unsurprising, but what do you think of this?

Kerrang are releasing a tribute to Metallica, where a bunch of today's flavour of the month bands cover the whole Master of Puppets album:
Machine Head - "Battery"
Trivium - "Master Of Puppets"
Mendeed - "The Thing That Should Not Be"
Bullet For My Valentine - "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)"
Chimaira - "Disposable Heroes"
Fightstar - "Leper Messiah"
Mastodon - "Orion"
Funeral For A Friend - "Damage, Inc."
This just looks so wrong!
P.S. yes that does say Fightstar.

actually, what are people's views on Machine Head? They always struck me as a pretty boring post-thrash groove band, but then again some thrashers seem really into them which is fair enough.
I guess I'm not really into my groove metal at all, so I can't get into Machine Head's sludgey riffs. The occasional fast riffs dont really make up for it to me, and I dont like the vocals.
Saying that, I guess they're one of the few (if only) on that list who might not do a completely shit cover. Shame it can't be Vio-lence doing it though, hehe 8)

They've got some good tunes and they're pretty good live, but nothing special really. Vio-lence doing the cover would be awesome
As for the tribute - its total gash. I can't believe the list of bands doing it. They might as well walk up to James and Lars and piss all over them. Machine Head and Mastodon are the only cool(ish) bands on there.

I'd like to think so, but seeing as we're not even in April yet...

I love Mastodon
Chimaira, and Machine Head are cool
but the rest of it is utter wank
loved the original album though
anyone remember Lim Bizkit's utterly shite cover of Sanitarium, or Staind (where are they now) cover of Nothing Else Matters
Korn doing fucking One and then stopping just before the solo
the CD will be complete balls, and i bet everyone will do a not for note cover of the song
for a decent metallica cover, listen to Rodrigo y Gabriela - "Orion" or "One (Live)" - original but not to everyone's taste, which is how all decent music should be

Actually, I was quite impressed with Limp Bizkit, they were the only band to actually atempt to personalise the song they were covering, and did quite a good job to be honest.
The other bands were a pile of steaming wank though. Did you know Staind fucked up Nothing Else Matters three times before they got it right, and all they were doing was strumming open chords. How bad can you be?
Fear, Hate, Death and a Bunny with really pointy teeth.
