my vocal control used to be really awful, but it's getting better
The hardest thing is when you start off singing and can't bring yourself to belt to get notes above the passagio*, because at first one tends to have to make oneself shout to get the high notes without falsetto - getting control to any degree is all about finding the head voice (which is not falsetto) to take the weight off your chest so you're not just shouting the high notes.
Passagio - the passagio is a bridge in the male voice, its the point where the chest voice - the register you naturally speak in - ends, and above which you need to adjust technique to sing with control. To get what I mean, start off by singing or humming at a low pitch, and bring it up until its as high as you can go without having to raise your voice, push, or flip into falsetto. That is the passagio. If you put your hand on your chest while you do this, as you get higher, you should feel the resonance of your voice shift upwards towards your face and head. with controlled singing above the passagio the resonance of your voice lies more in the head region.
I hope this makes sense to some degree!
I'll see if I can put it to use. Thanks!

What, like your...shit.
Are you two just in the same house using the same computer, taking it in turns to slag each other off because you both had a serious accident years ago that stopped you from being able to speak?!
I bet that's what's going on here. Yeah.

I just tend to sing along to Opeth that has a bit of everything in it, I also have The Zen of Screaming but the only useful thing I got from it was a couple of breathing techniques.

Re: Vocals
I might get the Zen Of Screaming, I've no idea how to scream properly. Would be nice to be able to mix things up with some death growls now and then.
