Re: Unique Vocalists
He is really. I mean, if you asked him to sing anything remotely tuneful, he'd be buggered. That doesn't matter because he's in Megadeth and doesn't actually have to be able to sing properly, though. That's my point really (oo-er); rating Metal vocalists is a generally a bit daft. Fair enough, there are a handful of unique vocalists doing the rounds in Metal. Would I have any of them in a Supergroup above, say, Lindsay Buckingham? Nah.

That's why this thread isn't attempting to speak "technically", it's just about strange original-sounding voices that add to bands.

Does Stephen Pearcy count?
He's a crap singer that not many people sound like but Ratt are fan-fucking-tastic.

À Tout Le Monde proved that Dave could actually put melody in his voice. And on the DVDs when he's singing all the songs properly with an acoustic...so..can...just...doesn't.

Re: Unique Vocalists
I have the Rude Awakening DVD and I don't like his vocals on that much. Although Mustaine is still a candidate for this thread I guess, because his voice is undeniably distinctive and adds things to Megadeth's music that a more straightforward hollarer probably wouldn't.

Rude Awakening is a shameful display or his singing, really. Mustaine is pretty much in a league of his own, though. Like I say, the boy cannot sing but he what he does for Megadeth works really well, e.g. The Conjuring, Liar and Addicted To Chaos.

Re: Unique Vocalists
FUCKING LEMMY, end of thread!!!!!
Actually, i agree that some of the unique styles are great, and i include king diamond in there. Actually, the ones that DONT have the technical ability are sometimes better, Lemmy, Sean Killian, Cronos, Quarthon, John Connelly, Les Claypool, Randy Rampage to name a few. All these add a dimention to their respective bands, making them more appealing than if they had a "good" vocalist!!

Re: Unique Vocalists
That's true actually, Lemmy is the best.
There's also Bon Scott and Brian Johnson! Brian Johnson's probably more unique, although Bon's obviously technically the better singer, for he actually sings, whereas Brian screeches his face off. I love both though. Back In Black and For Those About To Rock feature marvellous vocal performances from Brian, and every album with Bon has great vocals. AC/DC are so popular it's easy to forget about them in a discussion like this, but the vocals are definitely unique and hilarious!
As for Dave Mustaine, I don't think A Toute Le Monde is a good example to use in favour of his singing - it has about 2 melodies in it, and they're not the most musically mindblowing vocal melodies, if we're being honest here. But Hangar 18... you can literally hear the spit as he cries the word "CRYOGENICS!" I love his singing on that. He can't sing in the same way Dio can, obviously, but he can at least carry a tune.

Re: Unique Vocalists
for Mustaine it's all about Killing is my business!!! How he could be that fucked for the whole recording session and actually record something fucking amazing, with brilliant lyrics!!!
You can always know when you're listening to Megadeth... even if you've never heard the song before!!! Same with Motorhead, ACDC, Dio, true unique vocalists will always set the band apart from others!

He's not, Lemmy is like a Walrus that soothes my soul with his bassy gravy.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Lemmy is pretty much the ultimate man. Every man should aspire to be, and to sound like, him
