Welcome to UK Thrash!

So I heard the new Onslaught album

Talk about thrash from the UK.

THAT's the problem. I always figured this place had a sense of community, you know? British thrashers supporting their Thrash scene. Answer me this: if this thread was about the new Evile album, would you have posted that same comment telling people where they could download it? I very much doubt it. Why should Onslaught be any different? It's utter hypocrisy.

If you posted that comment over on MetalIreland.com regarding the new album by, say, Primordial, you'd be chewed to pieces and spat out. Yet people are posting in this thread asking where they can download it.

Nice community.

For the record I haven't downloaded it because I know the Onslaught lads, but I can see why others have and will. I am hoping to get a legit promo copy but if not I'll buy it when it comes out, however I do feel as if I am being left out of the party...

I post it here because I know that most if not all the people who download it would buy it too, this is a small community, its not exactly spreading it far... Either way, its a fact of life that illegal downloading happens, and that it pretty much always will do for the foreseable future, I dont lose sleep over that, sorry if that means I'm a bad person or I'm not supporting the scene or whatever.

That's a ridiculous statement. You'll never be able to prove whether most folk will bother their arses buying it. I can't prove they won't, but history shows us that a certain amount of them are unlikely to. And that's fact.

It has registered members from all over the world. And what about the lurkers?

You still didn't answer my question: if this thread was about the new Evile album, would you have posted that same comment telling people where they could download it? Be honest. And yep, illegal downloading does indeed happen, and it's unlikely to stop any time soon. But it doesn't need to be helped along, especially in this context. Not supporting your scene is one thing, but kicking it in the balls is another.

Shit, I'd download and/or post a leaked Evile album. And then I'd go to one of their gigs and buy the real thing. Hell, now I've heard Onslaught, I wanna go to one of THEIR gigs. I didn't give a damn about them until I heard this album. Now I'm keen to pay £20 to see em live. In fact, I'm gonna send this album to all my thrash mates and see if they wanna come along. No reason they should have to pay full price just to work out whether or not they like an album.

Illegal downloading is awesome.

I agree with you completely Bane. And Hostile the point of samples is to help you decide if you like an album beforehand. This hads resulted in me making some dissapointing purchases before and because it is so easy to copy you can't return CDs anymore. Some labels even have samples of each track for their releases. Just make sure with your friends that they delete the album if they decide not to buy it. For some people like you downloading the whole album is a positive thing but unfortunately some people use it as a tool to not pay anything at all.

to be totaly honest, onslaught wont actualy receive that much money from the sale of there albums, bands like metallica recieve as little as around 2p per album sold, the labels making the killing. Most money comes from royalties, if your songs played on a main radio station you'll receive money from that, Eviles album will be there same, yeah they will get money but no loads, we've spoke to several labels and i can tell you that the we make a lot more money on our demos now then we would if we was signed a lot more. it comes hand in hand with signing to a big label, the bigger the label the less you get per album. By the way i havnt downloaded the album, i will buy it but will have to wait until ive got money. Maybe jono is wrong posting about it been on the death blog but i know Jono and he does support the scene and anyone who knows him personaly will agree, downloading will happen i can give you sites in japan, and russia where you can download our cd and we cant do shit about it. Anyways i dont really know what else to say so i'll end with BEER!

HI LADIES/GENTS
HOPE EVERYONE ON THE FORUM IS WELL..
FIRSTLY I'D LIKE TO SAY 'THE BAND WILL NOT BE DRAWN IN TO ANY ARGUMENT OVER THE DOWNLOADING SITUATION', I WOULD JUST LIKE TO GIVE OUR POINT OF VIEW...
I CANT SAY WE PARTICULARLY APPROVE OF THIS SITUATION, BUT 'I CAN' SEE BOTH SIDES OF THE DEBATE. FAIR ENOUGH, PEOPLE 'ARE' GOING TO ILLEGALY DOWNLOAD ALBUMS, BUT THEN SURELY IF THEY LIKE THAT ALBUM, THE LEAST THEY CAN DO IS TO GO OUT AND BUY A GENUINE COPY, IF THE SOLE PURPOSE OF ILLEGAL DOWNLOADS IS TO BE A COMPLETE SAMPLER OF THE ALBUM THEN FINE, I GUESS IT WOULD BE THE SAME AS HAVING A SAMPLER DISC ON THE FRONT OF A MAG AND IT MAY EVEN BOOST SALES.....
ON THE OTHER HAND 'KILLING PEACE' IS NOT RELEASED FOR ANOTHER 6 WEEKS, 'WILL IT KILL THE ANTICIPATION FOR THE ALBUM? WILL IT HIT THE INITIAL SALES???.. TO SAY IT DOESN'T COST THE BAND ANYTHING IS VERY NAIVE.. BANDS / RECORD COMPANIES PUT A LOT OF TIME, MONEY AND EFFORT INTO MAKING A HIGH QUALITY ALBUM FOR THE PLEASURE AND ENJOYMENT OF PEOPLE LIKE YOUR GOOD SELVES,
ON MOST OCCASIONS REWARDS ARE VERY SMALL , IF ANYTHING..
FOR EXAMPLE..WE ALL KNOW RECORD COMPANIES ARE A BUSINESS, PROFIT IS WHAT THEY'RE ALL ABOUT, PROFIT GIVES THEM THE OPPORTUNITY TO SIGN AND BRING ON YOUNG / NEW BANDS.. IMAGINE ONE OF THE UP AND COMING THRASH BANDS ON THIS SITE RELEASING THEIR FIRST ALBUM. IF THEY WE'RE TO LOSE OUT ON 2000 SALES OF THAT DEBUT RECORD BECAUSE OF ILLEGAL DOWNLOADING IT COULD MAKE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THEM KEEPING THAT CONTRACT AND MAKING A 2nd ALBUM, OR LOSING THE DEAL.. LOSING THE DEAL WILL RESULT IN THE BAND NOT BEING ABLE TO CONTINUE AND FULFILL ANY POTENTIAL THAT THEY MIGHT HAVE.
COMPANIES WORK ON TIGHT MARGINS, YOU CANNOT BLAME THEM FOR IT.. BUT THEN AGAIN AS I SAID 'IT COULD ALSO BE A BIG ADVERTISMENT FOR THE BAND... WHO REALLY KNOWS..!!
ALL WE ASK IS THAT YOU SUPPORT THE SCENE AND YOUR FAVOURITE BANDS BY BUYING THE CD'S THAT YOU LIKE, BECAUSE OTHERWISE SOME BANDS MIGHT NOT BE AROUND FOR VERY LONG..
THANKS FOR LISTENING, HOPE YOU ENJOY THE ALBUM....
NIGE (ONSLAUGHT).... THRASH..!!!!!!

Great post Nige. The samples on the Onslaught MySpace are steadily growing on me. I'm looking forward to the album, and an Irish gig...

I'm fully against downloading, no matter what. Even if you say "im going to buy it"....so? you can't wait and buy it and hear it how it should be heard with the actual packaging and overall theme/feel of the cd release. There's nothing to associate the music with, just a file on the computer.

I'd rather hold the cd, and look at the packaging, read the lyrics whilst i hear the music.

I admit i dowload stuff but if it's a band who's cd i can easily get hold of or who i can see live i'll just download one or two trax to get a feel for the album then go and buy the fucker. If its a band who's stuff is hard to get hold of or i cant see 'em live or its rare/deleted stuff then i'll download the whole shebang. For instance i love Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax etc etc and i went and bought all their stuff coz it was easy to get a hold of, i daresay i'll buy the new Onslaught too and the new Evile when they release it(hurry up!) but when it's obscure bands i listen to such as Bathtub Shitter or Blood Duster then i'll download the lot.

Hah, now I'm glad I didn't bother ripping Hell Demo and putting it on Kerrazy. The thought had crossed my mind.

I'm a hardcore pirate, but for bands like Onslaught I'll buy the album just to support them. That won't stop me downloading it for archiving purposes. ALL DATA MUST BE ARCHIVED!

Downloading FTW!

I'm sorry, but there's no chance in Hell I'm not going to make the most of technology and exude dated 'I'd rather have a hard copy' sentiment.
