This is what I have:

I got it at the time because it beat other models like iPod on reviews, and it's still all I really need. Looks like you can get it for around £140

I recommend not an Ipod, and don't go for a super huge hard drive. They suck for when you want to jog with them; after a while the hard drive starts to fuck up.

Why people feel they need enough space to put their entire mp3 collection on it is beyond me. I have a 2GB micro SD card in my phone and thats more than enough. Its not like most people have a massively varied music taste anyways. No need to stick basically the same album on 15 times.

^ Apart from the terrible battery Life.
In reply to Destruction's post, what is the point of having 15 albums of the same music then? However I like to have my full collection so on long travels I can listen to anything and not have a limit.
And swizzlenuts I have an Archos av500 which is hd based however I've had no issue with it at all.

Get a Creative Zen Vision:M if you can find one - they've just been discontinued by Creative, but they really are brilliant players.
I've had mine for over a year, it's never given up on me, despite numerous drops and scrapes. On video playback it absolutely rapes the iPod video for quality, and it plays DivX encoded files without any hassle. You can sync it with WMP11 (Creative provide their own MediaSource software but freely admit that WMP is the best program to use.
My 30Gb Zen set me back £160 a year ago, so you can probably find it a bit cheaper than that now. If you can't find a Vision:M, I'd sit itu out for a bit and wait for the replacement, as the biggest Zen you can buy at the moment is 16Gb and it's a bit of a brick because of it's widescreen display.
True, but the technology for solid-state drives past 8Gb is so expensive that you'll pay through the nose for it.
