Short stories?!
Pah!
Did he do what most people did when they were forced to write short stories for Standard Grade (GCSE) English and plagiarise the plot of Independence Day? It does say on Wikipedia that he was into Science Fiction, so it's quite possible that he would have done had Independence Day been made earlier.

A good vulgarism that I heard one of my friend's remark tonight was 'motorboating'. Anyone heard that before? It had me in stitches.
