pretty over the top!

after seeing this commercial i wondered what all your opinions are about it.

i personally think its unecessary and due to recently becoming an uncle it made me think what kind of world my nephew is going to grow up in.
that poor girls frightened face.she starts with a smile then once the dad reads she starts to look scared stiff. also the dad/narrator tells it with some sinister undertone in his voice. as if trying to insult our intelligence.
the lighting and tone of the ad is already grim and the fact the girl is being brainwashed by her dad is out of order. she then appears as a character in the book herself which adds more freakyness and horror value to the whole thing.
and why the hellish monster cloud thing in the sky? what kind of fucked up bedtime stories/kids books have that shit going on?
even the animals are all sad...how depressing.
if anyone thinks turning off the power on electrical appliances at night will save the world then they are gullible as fuck.
the government enforce energy efficiency while they carry on expanding airports.hypocrites.

i highly doubt that a greenpeace/save the planet brigade were involved with that ad.

look how many 'energy saving' products are out there now.its a ploy to make people repace everything/justify they are doing their bit for the planet. they are pumping money into the shops thats certain.

i think Las Vegas/Picaddilly circus/tokyo etc all need re vamping if were gonna really make a start in showing improvement in energy saving.

anyway the uk is so fucking tiny so i doubt were making even the slightest dent in preventing the global warming situation.all these twats who recycle everything, sell their car to ride a bicycle, turn off power in every room etc are wasting their time.

the uk trying to 'save the world/save energy' is like the equivalent of showing up to paint a house with a toothbrush.(FACTUAL!)

all the private jets and limos used in the government and celebrity world totally outwiegh their bullshit crusades to save the world.

but yeah, the advert is over the top and highly sickening in my opinion.no need.

Well, the idea isn't that it's up to the UK alone to save the world, it's up to everyone. If everyone does their bit, then it should make a difference. It's like being vegetarian. The idea isn't that you stop eating meat and then suddenly all the cows will be fine. It's that you stop eating meat, help to spread the message and then hope everyone else will stop eating meat and then we'll all live in harmony with the cows. Who, unfortunately, are far too tasty to not be eaten.

So yes, my point is, turning off a lightbulb when you don't need it on might not seem like much if just one person does it. But if everyone in the world does it, amongst various other things, then yes, it will make a difference. I think saying stuff like 'Oh it won't change anything so there's no point' is just an excuse for laziness because people can't be bothered to get their arses into gear and try and change things for the better, because it's too much hassle. That, I believe, is called apathy (I think...). The government might be hypocritical about everything, but that doesn't mean we should stop trying to help things ourselves.

I don't think that advert's too bad. Maybe you could say it's a bit over the top, but it should be, so people take notice of it. The message it's trying to get across is only good. It's not selling anything, it's not telling you salmon's going to give you cancer, it's just trying to make you more concerned for the future that our children will grow up in. Which I think is a good thing.

some valid points there John,i myself drink a lot of bottled/canned softdrinks and i do take the empties seperately to the bins in town.also these days, our living room power is all switched off at night(mainly coz our t.v died the other month).
the awareness thing is a good message,i just think there could have been a more positive approach to making the ad. not having some youngster scaremongerd into doing things.
when recycling, turning power off etc people shouldnt be doing it out of fear but out of common sense and feeling theyre doing their bit.
rather than a horror movie ad,i think one with people dancing joyfully when saving energy whilst rainbows and flowers and animals start to emerge would have been far more effective (or something with a bit of colour and positiveness).
instead of it being like an AIDS/NSPCC awareness advert or something.

i think if the world turned to buddhism then thatl sort it....

also only fart in moderation haha

They should be spending their funds trying to get factories to reduce their emissions which dwarfs all of ours combined.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Thank the Police coming straight from the underground...

especially factories in USA, China, blah blahhhh

that advert was actually horrible, being preached at to turn off a fucking lightbulb to save the world... fuck off! the power has already been generated at a power station... then travels 100s of miles, losing power along the way... then waste more power at a substation... and the more travel and another substation... is this not THE biggest waste of power when compared to a light bulb?

and on the subject of pollution - no-one gave a fuck about nuclear testing... i mean how much radiation and badness does a nuclear bomb cause? yet governments of the world have been testing them for over 50 years.. i know they aren't now but the reasons they stopped had nothing to do with environmental issues...

anyways, im up for global warming... couldn't hurt to be a bit warmer in the winter could it?

My opinion is this- the Earth is like a GIANT organism, with so many billions of different factors to include, who knows it won't just balance itself out? I mean we only have like 200 years (if that) of weather records to actually go by, everything else past then is literally a guess... the earth has been around for billions of years and it will still be afterwards...

if it's too hot, its gonna be too hot... we cant change that! if it bothers you - move somewhere colder...
if it's gonna flood, it's gonna flood... move to high ground that won't flood...

i could carry on but all i'm saying is: the earth is the most insanely epicly big thing ever and it ain't gonna matter if we're here or not... if the earth is gonna change, its gonna change.. and if it's already started theres no way we can stop that from happening!

LOL no fucking way - I was in the focus group for this advert.

They were thinking of several concepts of how to produce this advert - but the story from within the book was definetly the best.

The rest were just going to be some nonce gormlessly reading out facts about this and that, with emotional theme music in the background.

I do think it's a message that needs to be repeated over and over until people get it.

If not for the environment, stop wasting money! Turn your light off when you're not using it!

How fucking patronizing!

It's clearly aimed at adults but because it includes "science" none of us clearly has any idea about the actual facts. So instead of respecting our intellects, they dumb it down and teach us about global warming through childrens' language.

THANKS BUMHEADS.

I didn't think that was the idea, I thought was just supposed guilt trip us into doing stuff by showing us a cute child.
