Job For a Cowboy

I can't remember if I already mate a thread for these or not, I searched and it came up with nothing.

Any way, they're a death metal band from Arizona and they're one of the best examples of how bands can exploit Myspace (at 6 million plus plays, I think they're the most popular extreme metal band on Myspace).

They released an E.P. a couple of years ago and it was good, although a little bit metalcore here and there. Last year they put up a song called 'Entities' which was a departure from this to a more death metal/grindcore sound and they've now settled on it with a preview track off the forthcoming Metal Blade album called 'Embedded'.

I like the sound of the new song, so I'm probably going to believe the hype and buy their CD when it comes out. Anyone else come across this band? Any fans? I'm really into them at the moment.

Yeah, the song 'Knee Deep' was used on that Sponge Bob thing, you can hear that song in full on their Myspace page. That's where I first heard them, I think.

Yeh Job For a Cowboy are a decent band, dont get why all these metalheads keep giving them shit and dont seem to want to admit that they're a Death Metal band though. Jumping on the hate bandwagon I guess...

Agreed! When I first heard of the band and saw that all the scene kiddies were into them I just presumed they were an emo band like Taking Back Sunday or someone haha. I had no idea they were death metal until recently.

I'll give them a listen tomorrow at uni if I remember. I keep forgetting to take my headphones  I've still not heard the new Amok demo.

When are you people gonna learn that the typical obvious names for bands and that are the worst!!! Its no good a death metal band coming out now and calling themselves 'Headremover' or 'corpsesmasher' or 'Demastuerbaterincantation'. Its been done so many times! theyre from Arizona, where there are still ranches of vast spaces and herders (or cowboys) it makes perfect sense! and look.......theyve capitalised on a morbid take on ranches and the desert of their area etc. With the focal point being the goat skull. You've got to start getting some new and original things into metal, or the whole things jus gonna fall by the wayside. And im afraid to say, little pockets like UK thrash will be all thats left - not good enough.

Fucking Job For a Cowboy have got it spot on the money. I just wish id have thought of one or two of the riffs they have.

And yes i know 'Heretic' would seem very typical metal. Yes, true. But it works, because our lyrical content and general themes arnt ur typical hell, satan thrash ones. So its seen differently i think.

Comments like this are just ridiculous - there's still a healthy metal underground that exists outside the internet world. Just because metal is unpopular in England doesn't mean that it isn't massive in other countries in Europe.
