Whilst I did have the entire Tankard discography at one point, I found that most of their stuff, whilst not shit, was just not too memorable. I can't think of many Thrash bands that have basically done the exact same thing for as long as Tankard have.
Tankard have enough filler, but compared to certain other thrash bands, I think the quality of stuff they've put out over 25 years is brillig. Yeah, sure, it's pretty much always the same stuff but because they've got a certain edge and brand of German humour/mistranslations, they always seem to throw in hints of originality. Plus they put out some damn good riffs.
I think I actually prefer the newer stuff to their older stuff.
I also prefer newer Tankard to old Tankard. I'm probably the same for Destruction, Cracked Brain aside. What was the name of the Tankard side-project they did in the mid-1990s? That was pretty good too. I think the main problem with Tankard is that they fuel the Thrash stereotype of geeks interested in beer, partying, Nintendo, sharks, and TMNT. I've never really liked bands that sing about how much they can drink because Def Leppard could out-drink them and they're perceived as pussies by most Thrash nuts.
