I bought the new Testament album and as I have been able to sit down and properly ingest it I have to say it's proving itself to be a great listen. It's got a real nice groove; it's heavy, fast and melodic. Basically, it's what I would ask for by an old band's new album (although, will have to check its sustainability).
Therefore, I was wondering which other band's more recent efforts (shall we say post-millennium) people here thought were really impressive and worth owning. To be honest, I haven't checked out loads but I thought Tempo of the Damned was good and Anthrax' WCFYA had a lot of really good moments. My favourite that I've heard currently has to be Onslaught's latest. Badass.
What say you?

I bet the new Destruction album will be amazing. I don't know anything about anything else though really. The new Testament sounds really good though from what I've heard.

BEST.ALBUM.EVER
I can listen to that album FOREVER.
Destruction's Inventor of Evil is awesome. Megadeth's newer releases are great too. Overkill had never sucked. And outside of thrash, I love Helloweens' and King Diamond's new records.

I haven't got it yet, but judging by their live show, the new Death Angel album sounds bloody good.

Re: Old boy's new efforts
The only album that a Thrash band has put out that made me soil my trousers with excitement since Low by Testament has been Tempo of the Damned. I listened to that every day for six weeks when it came out. Other than that, most of the new albums smack of either a lack of imagination (e.g. the new Onslaught) or are just thoroughly shit (e.g. the new Onslaught).

Re: Old boy's new efforts
Indeed. I think it's clear that I disagree with Iain on both criticisms.
I thought that Violent Revolution went down better than Enemy of God but I've not heard either to comment. When I get some more money, I will get back on to the modern thrash hunt, I think.

Re: Old boy's new efforts
Don't people also like Tempo of the Damned?
I'm praising one thing that people on here like and attacking another. I don't see the problem with that. I mean, I'm probably a bigger fan than most on here of the newer stuff by older bands, but I just found Killing Peace to be fucking rubbish. At least Tempo of the Damned was a step up from Force of Habit in most respects; Killing Peace was, on the other hand, a major step back from In Search of Sanity. It might just be me, but if a band is to make a comeback, I'd like to hear them putting out stuff that is worthy of playing alongside their old stuff.
Incidentally, I was tempted to use United Abominations instead of Killing Peace but I thought that might be too common a target. I think both are pretty fucking terrible.
Albums that Iain likes:
Anthrax - WCFYA (I don't think they've done an album I hate, old or new)
Destruction - The Antichrist
Exodus - Tempo of the Damned
Kreator - Endorama
Kreator - Enemy of God
Kreator - Violent Revolution
Tankard - Beast of Bourbon
Those are the ones that come straight to mind. In terms of albums I hate, the two newest Exodus albums, Destruction's Inventor of Evil, and the newer Megadeth and Slayer albums are all up there, though Slayer have had the token good song.

Good lord, Iain. All Tankard's new stuff is bloody brilliant, true.
Yeah, I liked Tempo very muchly. I think the first Exodus song I heard was Scar Spangled Banner and it was a good.

Re: Old boy's new efforts
Nah, Best of Bourbon was the only one that really stood out. Whilst I did have the entire Tankard discography at one point, I found that most of their stuff, whilst not shit, was just not too memorable. I can't think of many Thrash bands that have basically done the exact same thing for as long as Tankard have.
I think the main problem with most newer Thrash albums is that you get some great songs and the rest is complete gant filler. One of the brilliant things about Thrash is that Thrash albums have traditionally been in the region of 45 minutes or so in length. Whilst I still think that's way too long, it's pretty good because it cuts down the space for shite on albums. Even the albums that I listed above could have been improved via the omission of certain songs.

Tankard have enough filler, but compared to certain other thrash bands, I think the quality of stuff they've put out over 25 years is brillig. Yeah, sure, it's pretty much always the same stuff but because they've got a certain edge and brand of German humour/mistranslations, they always seem to throw in hints of originality. Plus they put out some damn good riffs.
I think I actually prefer the newer stuff to their older stuff.
