80s Pantera!!!

Postby thrash metal maniac on Sun May 11, 2008 3:38 pm

Was just listening to a bit of Power Metal (I've been listening to these albums quite a lot recently!), I love old Pantera!!!

Also all this talk of them copying their later sound off Exhorder... what do you think of their earlier sound/style??

Dimebags solos are completely ripping aswell!!!

Yeahhhh. I've only really heard Power Metal, but it's really nice and I probably prefer it to anything past Cowboys.

Power Metal is a pretty solid album. It's complete Judas Priest worship but, compared with what they went on to do, that is fucking superb.

Power metal = PROUD TO BE LOUD.

I wish they'd bring it out on CD properly.

Definitely!

'Actual' Pantera, I assume you refer to Cowboys From Hell onwards, was so beneath what the band were capable of musically. Cowboys From Hell was their best album of the '90s purely because there was some spillover from Power Metal.

Yeah, they were much better when Dimebag played solos, the lyrics weren't utter gash and they didn't act as if they were well 'ard.

I've never even listened to 80's Pantera and i have to say yes, fucking Pantera.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Thank the Police coming straight from the underground...

I always thought there was a definite Def Leppard - High and Dry feel to Projects in the Jungle. Top album.
Also, if you listen the squeaky riff in Power Metal you can quite easily hear the origins of Cowboys From Hell.

This is serious? Fucking hell. You lot are far too strange sometimes. It's all mediocre bollocks, and Pantera didn't do anything interesting until Cowboys.

Anything after Power Metal was utter gash!

Which track this is...
DUH DUH DUH
WEE
DUN DUH DUHHH
DIH DUH DUH
WEE

BUM-BE-DUHDUH
WEE

All of them. They're bloody rubbish and Dimefag Barrel is the worst riff writer ever. And Phil can't write any decent lyrics. And they only got popular because they made all the metal heads feel well 'ard. Which they're not, they're still mentally the spandex wearing puffs they've always been. Utter bloody overrated repeatative rubbish.
