Label best represents uk thrash?

Postby origamikid on Sun Dec 07, 2008 4:17 pm

Howdy

Views on this:Which label's represent UK thrash ---thinking proper indie labels and then the bigger indies. the ones that come to mind instantly are:

Earache and witches brew... i think thats what they are called...

Then resilliance records for putting out that kick ass CD¬!

But yea thoughts, at the minute is it all Earache, or is thier some awesome underground labels doing al the hard work?

Most of the bands put out their own cd's.

Though i would have to say Resilience Personally.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Thank the Police coming straight from the underground...

Well considering the main labels that represent the NWOTM are Earache/Metal Blade easily, really most bands tend to put out there record themselves. As the cost between 4-5 members is'nt going to be as much as one dude on his own.

Id love to set-up a small label and churn out cds left right and centre, but like Jamie only well knows having a room full of cd's not sold sucks.

Hell I have 2 copies of the 1st GB album one on a silver CDR with the sleeves and a professional pressed cd from witches brew

I did toy with the idea of doing a 7" or a LP a while back with some people I know, but the only winner would of been the guy at the pressing plant. The only way you are ever going to make the money back on that is hoping you have a cd/lp everyone wants selling a few and trading the rest with various labels for cd's of different bands and selling them in a distro.

On top of that you would have to give the band there royalties for recording and in a close net community like this you would be pitching sales to the same people generally

Its alot of money and you got to be lucky.

Plus for every band that sells a load on a label, more often than not 3/4 don't do very well and the big sellers keep the little ones afloat. Sad fact but Roadrunner records are largely funded by the success of Nicleback.

I think you're right Pove, Earache and metal Blade have it sewn up tight but they don't want the next Evile as they have Evile. Plus the download is the best friend and the biggest foe of the industry nowadays.

I'm gonna look to see if if a label would publish our finished album so if anyone has any genuine ideas of where to hawk our album 2 demos to then now's the time! Keep this thread trucking...

I was about to suggest that. Is Metal Blade not a good one to try for?

have you sent it to earache?

Well the original reason i opened the thread was cause i plan on writing a feature regarding labels, i was just gonna go with earache but i wanted to know if anyone else you reccomended.

Arnt Pitful Reign on a label? Punishment 18 or something, you could try that Freemo?

Doesn't Lee Dorrian have a label? Rise Above Records or something?

EDIT: Feemo, don't forget that there're talks of releasing The Devil's Legion through Candlelight too so that could be a bonus for you. Don't call me on it, I haven't been in the loop recently :( LOL
