It's about five degrees outside. Thankfully my laptop is AIDS-free so I can lie in jizzy sweat-pit so I can access the outside world from here.

Try doing the scans in Safe Mode!!! And incase yo0u don't know how to get there - reboot the comp and keep pressing F8 loads after the initial boot screen, should come up with some black and white windows startup screen, just choose Safe Mode from the options and do it that way

Did you run Avast in the boot-scan? Your PC is probably so virus-ridden that it needs to be scanned outside of Windows (as well as outside of Safe Mode), so make Avast do a boot scan:

Following those instructions, it will automatically move all infected files instead of deleting them

I think I did do that.

I've not used my PC in two weeks because I've been using my lap top (RIP) at my parents' house. I'm glad to say the AdAware/avast! combination seems to have done the trick.
