Someone talk me out of me buying this....

Postby Craig on Sat Nov 29, 2008 1:59 am

Right, I need someone act as the voice of reason (no idea why the fuck I'm appealing for a voice of reason on here ).

I've just seen this on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0277876771

And I want it. Basically I was looking at the 5-string version of this years ago before I bought my Peavey Grind Bass (which has been awesome for over 5 years), but it cost way too much for me at the time (£600) so I gave in and opted for the £400 Peavey. Ibanez have since discontinued the model, but they still pop up on eBay from time to time.

Problem is I've already got my eye on a Fender Active Precision Special, so if I get both (which will be more than likely as I really do want the Fender) I'll have three working basses. Which is stupid seeing as I hardly play outside of my own bedroom, and I'd be able to take a maximum of two back to university with me in September next year.

But I also want the Ibanez. And at that price, it looks like an awesome deal. Money isn't really an issue, as I've got £250 on the way from the sale of my old laptop (fingers crossed).

There's isn't much to say against it to be honest, if it stays at that price you might as well get it.

Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Well, there are obvious reasons not to - like you've already said you only ever play in your bedroom, so it's not going to get much serious usage, or be seen by anyone; plus I think I'm right in saying you never even play through your decent amp as it's "too loud" for the house. Another reason would be that the Peavey is perfectly OK. Another would be that within 6 months it would without a doubt be damaged and thus de-valued. And another is you keep moaning about being "in the red" economically already!

Well, after careful consideration, I've decided to go for it. Upshot is that if I get it, play it and don't like it, I can stick it back up on eBay. I'm not actually losing any cash on this anyway, as I'm waiting for confirmation that someone will buy my laptop for £250.

The fact that Ibanez discontinued the model is quite nice, so I'll have a rare-ish bass, and also one that I wanted quite a few years ago (albeit in 4-string form rather than 5). It'll more than likely sound better than my Peavey, and (although Lev says otherwise) it'll probably play better too.

Cheers, I won the auction on eBay so the bass should be delivered on Wednesday at some point. Ordered a set of Dunlop StrapLoks (used them for over 5 years on the Peavey, never had them fail).

Points taken on the bass, I'm not expecting to be gigging it regularly (I'm not even in a band ) but I've wanted one for a few years and it seemed like a very good deal, considering the model's now out of production. I'll be getting a Fender in the next year as well, so I'll be retiring the Peavey (the Ibanez and Fender will be taken to uni next September).

The EDA900 retailed at about £500 when it was in production so I'm hoping it'll be at least half-decent :)
