Cats vs. Dogs

Postby James on Tue Dec 11, 2007 1:27 am

At the risk of making some mortal enemies, which do you prefer?

Cats for me, unquestionably. I have SO many nicknames for my cat.

I like our dog too, but we're talking in general, as a species.

Cats, mainly because they don't smell and are less stupid.

When I still lived at home, I was used to having at least one cat sleeping on me. They're way more subtle than dogs in that they just come into your room, annoy you for a while then go to sleep. Dogs just scuttle about the place being smelly and making noise. Dogs are very pointless pets.

My cat of 15 years died a couple of months back. I'm going to miss him this Christmas seeing as it was almost customary for him to leave a Blackbird outside my door for me to step on whilst I was going for a piss at 4 a.m. Thank Christ we've always had more than one cat doing the rounds though. My mum's considering getting two kittens, but seeing as I've lived away from home for three years, I find it hard to get enthused about. Still, our remaining cat could probably do with the company.

We have two cats - one of them disappeared when my uncle brought his Collie dog round once. She was gone for months, so we got a new kitten.

10 months later we found the first cat patrolling around in a nearby churchyard, so brought her home and she just stayed.

The younger cat doesn't have a great deal of brains - she's been hit by traffic twice and survived (though the second time required considerable spine surgery!), and she tends to trot around right in front of your feet.

I like them both, but I'm probably more loyal to the older one, who is now about 7. I have loads of names for her; most referring to her increasingly stocky build. These include Barrel-Puss, the Mistress of Chunk/Podge etc. Puss in No Boots Because They Don't Fit, and one of my favourites, The Big Fat Christmas Pudding Who Got Too Big (seriously).

I miss the cats at uni :(

That is a nice cat there James.

I've never had either, but been around plenty of cats and dogs, and I think they've both got perks. Dogs are like big stupid cuddly morons, whereas cats are just plain evil, but cool at the same time.

When I get my own place, I'm gonna have to get one or the other. And dress them up and take pictures of them, blatantly.

lamest topic ever

cats. dogs make too much noise, smell and lick you all the time. However their loyalty is refreshing when compared to the cynical cat who just comes for the food and petting.

my cat is entirely useless and is scared of everything, especially me.

The "friendly/loyal" aspect is the only thing dogs have going for them in this contest I think. It is pretty fun to play around with a dog from time to time, but that doesn't really win them the vote. My dog likes me least out of all the family members though. I don't really know why.. I think it's because I occasionally tease him by pushing him around with my foot (he's pretty small)

See what you do there bro! (I've been saying 'bro' to myself in an American accent far too much lately)

Dogs are superior yes it has been said the loyality thing, they aren't useless what would a cat do in a fire or some burgular situration run out the catflap probably if it was even there. Cats are just overgrown rats anyways. Always hated cats.... and they all look so generic and dull apart from a couple of species. And who the hell said they make so much noise and lick you all the time all down to how ya bring them up same goes for a cat really.

Cats are just far cooler in general. Dogs just lumber about knocking stuff over.

(i) I don't view pets for their "use" - it would be pretty sad to need to rely on an animal to do something in a fire - of course a cat would bloody run out, they have sense.
(ii) No idea what the rat link is all about.
(iii) I don't think a cat would be noisy and constantly licking you however you 'brought it up'.
