Wondered if people were up for this - possibly starting at the last-16 stage to void choosing teams like Australia, New Zealand etc, or from the start if we get enough interest in time.
Stake will be £5 and prizes will be organised on a "milestone" basis, with "pro rata" amounts for group winners/runners up and cup winners/runners up.
Obviously if we run it from the start, we need 32 confirmed people, so post here and let me know if you're in. Teams will be drawn at random, and you'll be emailed your choice when it's been made.
If you want to send me your stake as soon as, then feel free, my PayPal account is craig@cwatson.org, or you can PM me if you want to do a bank transfer. Make sure to mark your stake as a "gift", otherwise PayPal will deduct their evil charges from it rather than adding them on top.
Who's in?
In so far

2) James

Basically everyone puts a fiver into the pot and draws (or is drawn) a team. Depending on the rules we set out, if the team gets to a certain point (so wins their group, or wins the World Cup) then you win whatever money's associated with that point.
Simplest way to do it is "winner takes all", but there's no real point in doing that when there's 32 possible teams, and half of those won't even get through the first stage, so mini-prizes for group winners, cup runners up etc might be an idea. I'll have a think about it over the weekend and see what happens.
All depends on how many people want in though

I'm in. And I agree there should be various "milestone" prizes.

Anyone else want to do this? We'll need a minimum of 12 more people to start from the last-16 stage.
