Recently i've lost all interest in guitar, which isn't good considering i'm starting a music course at college on monday. Has this happened to anyone else? if so how did you get past it ? I'm wondering if I learnt a new style of music that would re light the spark?
It's really annoying because i'm now not half as good as I used to be. Sucks

Re: Losing interest in guitar
Take a break for a bit, have a rest and have a fun time with something else. Then have a binge on songs you really enjoy playing, it happens to me all the time.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

That's the thing I have had a break, for months. I've bought myself new gear hoping i'd start playing again, but i'll play for an hour and half or so and get bored and I won't play for weeks.

that sound really deep, ive never lost interest in playing guitar, that sounds like the deepest rut ever, i suggest going on youtube and looking up lesssons by your guitar gods, paul gilbert's lessons and marty friedmans always gets me out of a rut

Re: Losing interest in guitar
I lost interest in guitar when I started boozing weirdly enough. I got Grade 5 and then stopped playing as much and then didn't play much throughout Uni due to reading and socialising. I'm back into playing now: I'll practise the monotonous stuff whilst watching DVDs and so forth but the days when I could sit and play for hours and hours without getting bored are long gone.
I just find getting into certain bands or guitarists makes me want to play. I was never into Paul Gilbert when I practised a lot but now, if I watch lessons on YouTube, they'll generally be his. I think being in a band and having to learn stuff would help as well.

I used to do all the Paul Gilbert stuff from total guitar, really is a great guitarist and a great teacher. I'm rapidly losing all my lead abilities, 6 months ago I was playing extreme songs now I'm struggling on phantom of the opera.

I think realising that you'll never be the best guitarist on Earth is important too. No matter how many hours you practise, you're never going to be Jason Becker so just accept what you can do and get on with it is what I say.

I read that in metal hammer. He said he couldn't really play though xD My mate who's a vocalist said his mate would play drums for us, so if that get's off the ground it will give me something to practise for.
