BIG FEST AT THE END OF JULY/ EARLY AUG!?!!??

Postby lyallthomas on Fri Jun 18, 2010 9:31 pm

I want to organise a big thrash-fest with all the best of UK Thrash at the end of July. I know its short notice-ish. But I dont mind organising the whole event if the interest is there.

It should be in the Midlands...middle-ground for all bands and fans to travel to. But this wont be worth it unless the interest is really there.

Is it? Reply to this thread if you're on it...

In. I have to be diplomatic though so listen to both my bands (in my signature) and decide which one you prefer, if at all.

I reckon there might be a gap in the market for a cheapish outdoor festival with camping , think quality unsigned bands that will put on a good show, even if they aren't well known and reasonable beer and food prices. You could even consider doing it in conjunction with a bike show or rally. Remember also that a lot of punters will be saving up for bloodstock.

There is a load of stuff to think about like licensing, pa, security, insurance and it would involve quite a lot of investment up front. Most festivals lose money for the first few years until they become established. I know someone who did just this, getting the bands in was easy enough but getting sufficient audience was a problem. Even if the bands are all unpaid, unless they can all bring enough audience with them you could end up giving loads of free tickets out for the bands and hangers on and not selling many. You'd probably be better off keeping it small with a break even of just a few hundred tickets.

So you can put me down as a maybe.

Thanks for the advice mate.... but I wasn't planning on making this a yearly thing for the future. Just an all-dayer....a one off really.

Ive organised these kinds of things before.....before Heretic started getting booked and didn't have to organise gigs itself anymore.

So dont worry about security, outdoor staging, food and all that bollocks.

I just want to know the right bands are optimistic and serious about playing, and that a good group of fans, 100 or more being a bonus, would turn up. Little help with some promoting, flyer making in the meantime as well and it would be all good to go!

But it's the 'put me down as a maybe' that I dont want to hear.....this post has also been up 24 hours and there are hardly floods of people rushing to get involved.

This could be sort of a test actually, to see whose serious about this forum and the UK Thrash contingent still.....

Cool idea, but isn't late July/early August a bit optimistic?

The new kids on the block, Bludvera would like to take a shot at this event since we missed FTA 2010 this year, would be awesome to get on a Thrash Fest since we missed out last time.

Also we're supporting Bonded by Blood on 13th August so all you people who arn't at Bloodstock on the Friday, get to Leeds and watch us!
