Recommend a humbucker!

Postby James on Tue May 25, 2010 8:39 pm

I'm thinking about replacing the stock bridge pick-up in my basic Jackson Warrior, I basically want something that is good for really aggressive rhythm playing. Any recommendations based on tone and price?

Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Yeah I've heard the bare knuckles are wicked, I'll have to look into it. Are Painkillers their 'extreme' metal model?

Yeah i think that's the case. I think Allegro Music in Chelmsford is a stockist as well James, not sure on prices though.

No, the more extreme ones I think are the Nailbomb and Warpig, altho the Painkiller is pretty heavy too..
Drop the guy a message and he'll personally be the one replying to you.

Yeah i emailed them about bass pick ups for my six string and they're pretty reasonable for custom jobbies.

Bare knuckle pickups are great, I tried the holy diver pickup in a les paul and it sounded brilliant.

Dimarzio super distortion are a personal favorite of mine, really hot but great definition too; emg active are also really hot but not very subtle, better for playing live. They are also F spaced for floyd rose equipped guitars.

If you look at the resistance on the pickup spec, the hotter the pickup the higher the resistance, so i wouldn't go below 12k ohms .

Get some from axesareus.co.uk

I got a pair ofthe unbranded humbuckers (£35) and put them in a custom explorer for a Motorhead tribute band

Absolutely spot on

AI had a bareknuckle, but everyone is different and I really didnt rate mine

G & B "Black Dog" Humbuckers

just after half way down

Honestly, they look and sound wicked, plus you dont pay for a name!!! (15k and 11k so pretty powerful)

The Jackson is currently at the shop waiting to have two Bare Knuckle Painkillers fitted! Although I'm somewhat concerned as I rang them up today to ask when I could collect it, and spoke to someone else who said if he was in my shoes he would pay the engineer in question NOT to solder the inside of his guitar!

He'd better not fuck something up... I should have known he was a false as he has dreadlocks.
